Historia
I’ve always wanted the fairy tale wedding. Not for the princess perfect dress or big party, but for papa. My grandfather. The only father figure I’ve ever known. It’s his dying wish to walk me down the aisle. Gee, no pressure. But I can grant that wish. I just have to fake being head over heels in love with Ross Andrews, my best friend's big brother whom I embarrassingly crushed on all through high school. Handsome. Knockout sexy. Arrogant jerk extraordinaire. Our childish pranks and tit-for-tat battles were legendary.

3.5 stars, actually
Revisado: 08-03-22
I soooooo could have done without the over-the-top 100% explicit sex scenes! But otherwise, it was very funny and I loved that, from that point of view it was good. Especially appreciated after another book that was just as explicit without being funny at all.

This should be marked as gay/lesbian.
Revisado: 08-03-22
While I have nothing against gay and lesbian people and I would vote for their rights to marriage and adoption, I am, on principle, against books and movies not being labeled as gay/lesbian stories when their main characters are gay or lesbian. I simply don't want to continue reading this, although I bought the entire series, because it has not been marked to be what it is. Unfortunately, it's too late for me to get my credits back. It's unfair that there's a time limit...

Maybe not good enough even for teens!
Revisado: 03-02-19
I'm an adult who listens quite often to YA books, but the level was so low in the case of this one that it couldn't satisfy even my most basic requirement: I just wanted a short, light, forgettable fun read. I ended up almost dizzy from all the eye-rolling.

Historia
Meet Anita Thompson: she's young, she's lovely, she's clever, and she's a witch. A real one. Anita lives in two worlds: the modern world of supermarkets and sports cars, radio and rock-and-roll, where she is a thoroughly modern girl with a thoroughly modern interest in boys and fast living and her own independence. But she also lives in the ancient and rustic world of traditions, cauldrons, and familiars.

Almost incomprehensible
Revisado: 09-10-16
It's not a "normal" novel, it's a series of short stories involving Anita and her grandmother (always) and various other characters. Nothing is properly explained, so many stories leave me shrugging... I'm a third into it and, although I really hate leaving books unfinished, I really see no point in wasting my time on it, so I will probably stop here.

Historia
Obesity has hit epidemic levels. In the developed, and much of the developing world, it is now 'normal' to be overweight with a BMI of 25 or more. And the global population is getting fatter all the time as a powerful mix of cheap foods, social behaviours, and commercial pressures drives us to the biscuit tin again and again and again. But this is not the worst of it....

I've given it 3 stars (I was tempted to give it just 2) because it is a good synthesis of the problem (and, implicitly, of the solutions). Given how short it is, it does manage to inform pretty well... but only the totally uninformed. If you've read one or two books about healthy eating, nutrition or obesity or a few pages on these topics on the internet, this is a waste of time. If you've lived under a rock, eating to your mouth's and stomach's content for the last few years, this is definitely the good start for you.

Total cliffhanger...
Revisado: 04-24-16
Really, Audible should make it clear that this is the beginning of a trilogy. And that the second volume, which has been published for more than 2 months now, is not yet available in audio. I didn't know I was going into a trap when I started listening. Now I'm frustrated because the continuation is nowhere in sight.
Well written, well read... it has its faults, but all in all an enjoyable listen that makes the listener want more (well... an ending, at least)...

Mostly boring
Revisado: 04-16-16
I found this a boring read. It was waaay too detailed to be inspiring. Furthermore, this book is just the beginning of the story, since the author decided he could earn more by selling several short books instead of a complete and longer book. Really, why sell one book of 20+ hours, like other authors, for one credit, when you can sell 4 books approximately 5 hours long for a credit each, especially if you can easily create that content by describing every meal and stating its price. The nuggets of wisdom were so few and so lost in the bla bla that, just a month or two after I finished listening, I have no idea what they were. Waste of time. Needless to say, I will never read the rest of the series.

Historia

Eccellente scoperta
Revisado: 08-10-15
If you could sum up Il padrone delle ferriere [The Owner of the Ironworks] in three words, what would they be?
Prevvedibile, ma delizioso
What other book might you compare Il padrone delle ferriere [The Owner of the Ironworks] to and why?
Molti altri romanzi classici dell'Ottocento
Have you listened to any of Silvia Cecchini’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Sì. Veloce, ma espressiva come sempre. Ad un certo punto sbaglia una parola, si interrompe, si sente bussare 3 volte, poi la narratrice ripete la frase corretta e va avanti. Molto strano :))
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Non proprio.
Any additional comments?
Mancano tre ore alla fine, ma vorrei ne mancassero ancora dieci. Allo stesso tempo... è tardi e domani devo lavorare e non so come fare per permettermi di non andare a dormire prima di finire, per trovare una scusa...

Best of the trilogy
Revisado: 02-10-14
If you could sum up Requiem in three words, what would they be?
Feelings, tears, hope.
What did you like best about this story?
Good pace most of the time, less silly romance than in the beginning of the series, "Take down the walls!"
What about Sarah Drew’s performance did you like?
Everything! In this book, she was given the best material she could hope for and she made it brilliant! She sounds like a very good actress.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I guess I did :) I think I finished it in a day, I was lucky I got to it on a Sunday.
Any additional comments?
Well... every narration is an interpretation that changes the way the story and the characters are percieved. I have difficulties reading text, so I only listen, which means I've had to get used to any kind of voice and narration, good or bad, as the only means of getting to the story. Consequently, I'm not picky. But I do appreciate good narrations, and Sarah Drew's interpretation definitely enriched my experience of the book. It's especially in this third volume of the series that she's really perfect! I read reviews from Amazon, of readers of the written text, complaining about the ending. But with Sarah Drew giving me the ending, I was quite satisfied. It might give answers the written text does not? Interpretation? Not sure, but I liked it. There's a wonderful short interview with her at the end, I was sorry it wasn't longer, I loved that, too!

Totally misleading title
Revisado: 06-23-12
What disappointed you about Vegetarianism in a Nutshell?
The fact that the title is totally misleading and does not reflect the content of the book. I was expecting general information about vegetarianism, a little history, for example, reasons why people decide to become vegetarians, various dietary and social aspects, eating in restaurants, food choices when travelling... various aspects related to vegetarianism, in short. I'm a vegetarian and I would have liked to hear other people's views on the topic. What I got instead was a sermon against vegetarianism and for veganism.
What was most disappointing about Bruce Friedrich???s story?
I heard the same thing over and over again. Every few sentences, I was told the vegan diet is the only reasonable one to choose.
Any additional comments?
If you want to convert people to veganism and militate for that, that's just fine, those arguments are interesting to listen to, but please be honest and open about it, just put it in the title. How can you persuade people if you start by creating false expectations, by sort of lying to them?
