Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Never connected more with my inner nerd
Revisado: 01-21-25
This was such a good time. The nostalgia was so genuine that I couldn’t help but drink the Kool-Aid too. Percival (sp?) is such a fun and earnest character. It was easy to root for him and his friends. Can’t wait to watch the movie now.

Historia
For more than three decades Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City has blazed its own trail through popular culture...from a groundbreaking newspaper serial, to a classic novel, to a television event that entranced millions around the world. The first of six novels about the denizens of the mythic apartment house at 28 Barbary Lane, Tales of the City is both a sparkling comedy of manners and an indelible portrait of an era that changed forever the way we live.

Quirky, hugely influential, and wonderful
Revisado: 09-04-18
I’ve just listened to it for the second—wait, now third—time, and it was like visiting good friends who you haven’t talked to in a while. All those wonderful characters waiting there for me. But this time, I got more out of their stories, and more of an understanding of how influential this book is. If you follow LGBTQ culture, you spot the reverberations this book has made all over queer culture. Fun, funny, and beautifully read by Frances McDormand.

Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

Revisado: 04-14-18
Such a curious, wonderful, simple and yet deep and beautiful story. Gaiman reading his own work is a dream. I will probably listen to this recording again. I hope I will anyway. Highly recommend to lovers of a good yarn.

What the rich know about money.
Revisado: 07-22-17
Yes, I wish I'd read and BELIEVED this book when I was younger. (I picked it up once and put it down after about 5 pages. I thought this guy was trying to sell me a phony bail of goods. Little did I know at the time.) Yes, this book is worth it because it will help you make more money if you take just one piece of advice: get clear on what takes away your money and what brings it in, and focus on what brings it in.

A father publicly beheaded in the blistering heat of a Saudi Arabian public square. A notorious Syrian biotech expert found eyeless in a Damascus junkyard. Smoldering human remains on a remote mountainside in Afghanistan. A flawless plot to commit an appalling crime against humanity. One path links them all, and only one man can make the journey. Detailed modern thriller, good but not great
Revisado: 11-29-16
A sprawling thriller impressively detailed but an otherwise good but not great story. The thrill comes mostly from a world of fantastically high stakes that is both unbelievable and yet plausible.

Historia
Robert Evans' The Kid Stays in the Picture is universally recognized as the greatest, most outrageous, and most unforgettable show business memoir ever written. The basis of an award-winning documentary film, it remains the gold standard of Hollywood storytelling. An extraordinary raconteur, Evans spares no one, least of all himself. The Kid Stays in the Picture is sharp, witty, self-aggrandizing, and self-lacerating in equal measure.

Hollywood dishing at its best
Revisado: 09-17-16
it's almost hard to believe that a guy like Robert Evans wrote a book like this. if he's telling the truth, or anything close to it, you get a blatant inside look at some of Hollywood's most incredible stories in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s. Evans' narration is a little difficult to understand at times, but hearing it all from the horse's mouth is well worth it

Thorough and informative
Revisado: 09-17-16
I doubt that in one place you will be able to find as much information about DreamWorks and the people involved there as in this book. The research seems copious, and though one suspects whether all of it is true, the overall impression is you've learned a great deal about one of the most interesting companies in recent Hollywood history.

Historia
Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Not hilarious, but funny and worthwhile
Revisado: 01-28-16
I think the best thing about Tina Fey is that she knows how to describe anything with such comic acuity that even the mundane is funny. I guess I was expecting a bunch of great stories, but the sort of quaint stories she does tell are informative and entertaining.

Oscar Wilde's most popular and enduring play is set in Victorian England and concerns characters who maintain false identities in order to escape their social obligations. The play, which satirises Victorian society, is full of wit and humour.

The play as it's meant to be heard.
Revisado: 04-08-15
If you could sum up The Importance of Being Earnest in three words, what would they be?
Witty, quick, and pure Wilde
Any additional comments?
The wit of Wilde comes across brilliantly in this recording, where you can hear the live audience laughing along with you. Abridged, unfortunately, but don't let that deter you!

Gripping and relevant
Revisado: 04-08-15
I'd call this a political thriller. Was amazed at how relevant it still is. Steinbeck's command of story and character is excellent, as is the narrator's performance. Highly recommended, even for a first timer to Steinbeck.
