Historia
If you've ever longed to read the great Modernist novels of the early 20th century - perhaps James Joyce's Ulysses, Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse, or William Faulkner's Absalom, Absalom! - but have shied away or set them down because of their intimidating style, fragmented narrative, or lack of a clear plot, you no longer need to wait, or be reluctant to return. In this series of 24 lectures, an acclaimed literary scholar and award-winning teacher has created an accessible gateway to this remarkable literary movement.

Narration a hurdle
Revisado: 05-21-23
Unfortunately the narration was often difficult to listen to, as has been mentioned here. It made it necessary to limit my listening time to brief stints. I managed through, for the sake of the content, but it did make the content less accessible overall. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

Returned due to narration
Revisado: 05-14-23
Narration very difficult to listen to for any length of time -- overly theatrical, perky, ultimately annoying. Could not get past the first chapter. Turned out to be a good reminder to listen to the sample before purchasing.

Comprehensive and specific
Revisado: 01-01-22
The author covers a wide range of topics related to chronic illness, with practical and specific guidance for everything from optimizing visits with medical professionals, to tracking symptoms with an eye toward identifying and limiting triggers, and integrating the imperatives of chronic illness into a full and satisfying life -- on personal, social and occupational levels.. The tone throughout is realistic and at the same time positive and affirming.
One note: at times the content seemed more focused on issues of patients earlier in life (seeking employment, moving from parental home, etc.), to the exclusion of impact of chronic illness met later in life, or having progressed so as to require significant readjustment of long-established identity, e.g, This book overall is comprehensive and clearly valuable, but readers looking for address of these other significant challenges will find it missing here.

Glad I finished it
Revisado: 07-09-21
First, the narrator is impeccable. Characters’ speech easily distinguishable one to another, without being exaggerated. I will look for this narrator in other offerings.
The novel itself: There were times I considered abandoning it, becoming weary of unlikable characters who were encountered over and over with little to no deepening, real understanding of their motivations or glimpse into depths. They seemed mostly one dimensional vehicles for development of the overall theme. The final chapter however proved more satisfying, as the theme came to life more palpably. It was a little arduous getting there.
