Rollercoaster of zombiefied fun!
Revisado: 08-03-23
Took a few minutes to adjust to bc with only dialogue there are few descriptors of the environments. Various sound cues helped with this, but switching to hearing the characters’ journals made the biggest positive difference.
The readers nailed their respective parts.
All in all, worth it!
Spoiler note: with the exception of Burt, most of the characters had little ability to manage their emotions and were perennially lovesick in times of crisis; this failing consistently jeopardized them all.

Imagine an empty country with a few survivors mostly getting along and you will get the crux of this story. I like the characters and the reader, but it was hard to differentiate the characters at some points,

Fun, interesting and fast paced story!
Liked the educational aspect of the preludes too, but did not like it when the prelude exposed plot twists of the coming story.

Historia
Henry never realized he was special. Sure, he’s an engineer who served his country, but when the virus hit, he found himself alone in a nearly empty world. That’s the key, though: nearly empty. There’s no one left who has the technical know-how to make the world run again...except for Henry. For humanity to survive, he will have to rebuild society out of the motley crew of survivors. It might be impossible, but at the same time, Henry has always loved a challenge.

Incel Insider
When the Alabama secret “hunk”, Henry, wakes up in the home he shares with his grandma, everyone is dead. It’s fortunate that he is instantly tracked down by a twenty year old Auburn Cheerleader who is even wearing her uniform; she put it on when she realized her schoolmates were all dead and thought it travelled well. The 1A cheerleader is also a farmer and a animal whisperer who charms bulls and animals without a rope! She also worked every week day and weekend as a short fry cook and has a mind beyond her years. But since Henry is also a soldier, crack mechanic and an MIT grad, it is no wonder the “goddess” cheerleader falls for him right away and pushes sex on him. And, once in love, they both realize it is best to also sexually share the fine soldier/weightlifter survivor in addition to the gorgeous black doctor.
Good thing the book is dedicated mostly to them playing house or else the one incongruous “bad” guy would have won for sure. At least Henry repeatedly warns this bad guy who is hellbent on killing anyone around him. Yep, after getting blown up and shot at, this Henry gives up his people’s perfect position to give the baddie many more chances to shoot and throw faux grenades at them.
Yeah, be prepared for lovesick survival “experts” whose romantic interludes outshine the supposedly dead world around them. Disclaimer: no wifi and many hours of driving got me through this teen-like romance.

Historia
On Zero Day of the first and last cyberwar in human history, the internet went dark, transport and power grids collapsed and cities began to starve, showing just how vulnerable the world could be to a targeted campaign of online sabotage. This final installment of this prescient epic of civilisation collapse finds the small ragtag band of survivors come together to face a new, but eerily familiar threat - the rise of a fascist militia among the ruins of a failing country.

Book 1 was the best! Great cyber apoc!!
Two was getting interesting too, but ended with a cliffhanger that wasn’t picked up in Book 3? Almost felt like I missed book 2.5, but turns out after reading some of 3 that I really didn’t miss anything.

It’s the end of the world as you've never known it. Join the Librarian as he does his best to make the post-apocalyptic world a better place by protecting the weak, fighting injustice, squaring off against a group of former renaissance fair workers who have established a kingdom in the Rocky Mountains, and so on. Can one man make a difference in the face of such murderous cannibals and super smart bears? Probably not.

Funny to the bitter end!
Revisado: 05-09-22
All in all book 1-3 were entertaining and plush with humor.
Book 1 was the best!
Book two was ok.
Book 3 was better than I thought it would be, and ended in a way that had some highlights (the Iron Eagles were awesome), but ultimately abused the instincts of the Librarian in a way that he wouldn’t have fell for.
Maybe it it was done to set up future books in the series, but instead it just provided a good bookend — one that allowed me to move on without looking back for anymore in the series.
Perhaps if the author made the female characters less incompetent and annoying, the end would have had more impact. As it was, good riddance.

So many apoc books do this one thing..
Revisado: 05-09-22
All in all a good zombie book!
The separate stories weave together fine, though I sometimes lost who we are following from time to time. Fortunately, all the main characters were asexual and could, therefore, focus completely on survival.
Spoiler: So many of these apoc storylines include some evil govt agency trying to hunt people down to shut them up AFTER the world has already ended. It doesn’t matter at that point — no more cops, courts, or newspapers. Why waste precious resources and manpower tying up looses ends when nothing it tied up anymore..

Historia
The year is 2011, and what starts as a pervasive and inexplicable illness ends up as a zombie infestation that devastates the world's population. Taking the form of a biologist's journal found in the aftermath of the attack, this pulse-pounding, suspenseful tale of zombie apocalypse follows the narrator as he flees from city to countryside and heads north to Canada, where he hopes the undead will be slowed by the colder climate.

Historia
This story picks up exactly where book one left off. The Talbot family is evacuating their home amid a zombie apocalypse. Mankind is on the edge of extinction as a new dominant, mindless opponent scours in search of food, which happens to be non-infected humans. In this book are the journal entries of Michael Talbot, his wife, Tracy, and their kids, Nicole, Justin, and Travis. With them are Brendon, Nicole's fiancee, and Tommy, previously a Wal-Mart door greeter who may be more than he seems.

It’s okay.
Revisado: 01-18-22
I got tired of hearing about the lead character’s supine existence when it comes to his under weight wife. Oh great, she can get loud, has scary eyes, and runs his life - so tf what. As much as the lead character, Talbot, talks and alludes to sex with his wife, I’ve finished book two and he is still unfulfilled, and she is still pretty useless and super annoying as a survivor.
Are these books a love letter or an apology to the writer’s real wife?
Besides that, there are some really good insights to a zombie apocalypse and worth the free read (audible).

Historia
It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Revisado: 12-01-21
Having read dozens of post-apoc books I am always stoked to find a new take with great characters, and Slow Burn has both!
The narration helps set the mood too. The main character has the emotional intelligence of a kid, but it works since the other characters are cognizant off that as well and his exploits are harrowing and often hilarious lol. The supporting characters are even better, and I hope to read more about Zed, Murphy and my fav character, Del Hoover.
