Born in 1340 as the younger brother of the Black Prince, John of Gaunt's life is captivating. John was a brave leader, first setting foot on the battlefield at the age of 10. Later, as one of the richest men in the country, he would uphold chivalric values, support early religious reform and champion a renaissance of art and literature in England. Matt is joined in this episode by Helen Carr, a historian, TV producer and author of the biography of John of Gaunt 'The Red Prince'. Helen takes us through the incredible life of this diplomat, brother and son.

Disappointing

This course presents a lot of information. The lectures are dry and the speaker spends so much time making fun of any Christian references, throughout the entire series, that I felt that the point was lost on the rich history of the Vikings and was taken over by the professor’s hatred of all things Christian. I listen to 29 lessons and then I just stopped. The professor is also really hard to follow. I kept backtracking to see what I missed but he'd just jump from topic to topic.

What did you love best about Night Shadow?
I'm a huge fan of the author's, and I love superhero movies, so this was a great surprise for me as I got into the book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Night Shadow?
When Deborah realizes that they're both the same man she's in love with.
What does Kate Rudd bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I thought her performance was "spot on" and really brought the book to life.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
IDK. Maybe that he was as vulnerable as the people he helped.

Tim Curry certainly brings to life this beloved Christmas classic. One of the things I don't like about audiobooks is the characters don't sound very different when one person is doing the narration. This is not the case with this book. Tim Curry is just brilliant. Highly recommended.
