Love the Narration
Revisado: 10-23-23
I see that some people dislike the narration of this audiobook, but it is ideal for me. So many narrators try to give every character a distinct voice, ending up with some very exaggerated voices, tones, pitches, accents, etc., which forces me to perceive certain characters in ways I otherwise would have not. It can ruin a book for me. This narrator differentiates the voices just enough to enable me to perceive which character is speaking during a conversation. Aside from that, I can build the characters in my own mind, as I do when reading a book myself. I wish this was the way every narrator recorded audiobooks.

Historia
In this delightful, acclaimed bestseller, one of the world’s leading cognitive scientists tackles the workings of the human mind. What makes us rational—and why are we so often irrational? How do we see in three dimensions? What makes us happy, afraid, angry, disgusted, or sexually aroused? Why do we fall in love? And how do we grapple with the imponderables of morality, religion, and consciousness?

Einstein vs High School Dropout
Revisado: 04-29-23
I'm partway through the first chapter, and I'm a bit taken aback as I hear, "The difference between Einstein and a high school dropout..." For one thing, many people drop out of school for reasons that have nothing to do with their ability to perform in school, much less their intelligence. Personally, I dropped out in my sophomore year and got my GED, because school wasn't my thing. What really surprises me, though, is that Pinker apparently doesn't know that Einstein himself dropped out of school when he was 15!
I'll revise this review after I listen to the rest of the book, but so far, it's off to a shaky start.

Don't Change!
Revisado: 06-30-22
Hey, the episode of the ghosts at the airport is one of my favorites! I like the "spooky" Halloween one, too. I sincerely am not trying to be rude, but I enjoy this podcast and the humor in it, so to the author of the other review on this episode, if some of the elements of James's stories bother you, maybe there is a similar podcast you could listen to that is more suited to your preferences. It's like we're visiting someone who owns a cat, and I enjoy the presence of the cat, but you're requesting that our host declaw his cat because you are wary of claws.
I do think it's a good idea to share opinions and suggestions, and maybe your request is of a change James would be open to implementing, but I would like to cast my vote against it. Perhaps it would work out to have a disclaimer in the description of each episode that contains creepy elements. Either way, from one insomniac to another, I hope you have a good night, fellow listener, followed by many more good nights to come. To sleep!

Relax with a meandering and mildly amusing story! In this week’s story we find a use for some obsolete technology, discover what is the most profitable gift to be blessed with, and visit a very clean kitchen. Every story is an improvised, drama-free, and light-hearted tale delicately woven to help you wind down at the end of the day.Creating a podcast with the aim of making people sleepy can be tiring in itself! The first time you listen this one, it's such a mystery that you want to stay awake to hear the end. It's worth it though! It's not my favorite one to fall asleep to, but it's so silly and funny! One that I giggle out loud to, which I actually do often when listening to your podcast. This story has stuck with me (pun not intended), and it comes to mind any time I'm in a certain sticky situation (pun intended). I have even related it to both my roommate and my mother. Good one!

Ok, I think this one is my favorite. I have listened to it many times. It's so peaceful, positive, and pleasant. The cloak is a fun and random element. 😄 The world would be a better place if all traffic jams were like this. 😏

Lame Rip-Off of the Stand
Revisado: 05-03-22
I pushed myself through to chapter 37 but don't want to waste more time on something I am not enjoying. I see why so many reviews compare it to The Stand, which is a book I very much enjoyed; it's like a cheap rip-off of it. So many copied elements it's slightly plagiarization. A few random gripes that come to mind: The evil guy is very generic and stereotypical. Rats are always squealing for no reason, when jn reality, the only time a rat squeals is when it is actively being hurt, like when it's foot is caught in a rodent snap trap. Why do wolves attack and try to eat people when there are plenty of freshly dead bodies everywhere? As far as narration goes, half the characters sound like they have various speech impediments. I'm returning this book.

Hole:
Hi James, this is Kelly
This is the most boring SleepPod story I have yet listened to. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad. It's a fine line between the story being interesting enough to keep my mind from wandering and therefore keeping me awake, and not so interesting that I want to stay awake to hear the end of it. My mind does wander a lot during this one, but so far I have fallen asleep before the end of the it, so maybe that's ok. It might be your voice, the way you speak, and the background music/sound that works so well. Looking forward to the next one, as always.

Hi James, this is Kelly.
This was my first SleepPod episode, which got me hooked on your podcast. I was surprised at how well it helped me fall asleep, and then almost amazed that I could listen to it every night and always fall asleep before the end. I was quite amused by the story, so much so that I related what I heard of it to my roommate. I convinced him to listen to it that night, but he fell asleep before he could hear any of it and therefore appreciate it. He falls asleep easily anyway, so he didn't stand a chance. I listened to this story many nights in a row before it occured to me to listen to other SleepPod episodes. I'm glad I did. Thank you, James!

New Favorite
Revisado: 03-23-22
Hi James, I'm Kelly.
This is my new favorite episode, moving "Chair" to second place. I get little kicks out of so much of it, such as all the excessive detail. I've listened to it every night since it came out, and I still haven't heard the end of it. Funny how that can be high praise for a story!
