Historia
Slough House is a dumping ground for British intelligence agents who've screwed up cases in any number of ways - by leaving a secret file on a train or blowing a surveillance. River Cartwright, one such "slow horse", is bitter about his failure and about his tedious assignment transcribing cell phone conversations. When a young man is abducted and his kidnappers threaten to broadcast his beheading live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself.

Slow Horses is Slow Story
Revisado: 02-09-24
Plodding, What I would call typical English melodrama.
it may make a great NetFlix, but I struggled to finish. I didn't see "the horses" doing much to save the day ... just themselves

Historia
Get the North Star to the Galactic Sentinel, sign off with the Galactic Council, and return to Fleet Academy Four. It should have been easy, but compared to the Galactic Council, Earth’s politicians are girl scouts selling Peanut Butter Patties to their grandmothers. Widespread riots and whispers of Chimera terrorists only make matters worse, especially when the terrorists are better armed than most of Sentinel Security.

5% relevance to book 1.

A "Perrils of Pauline" (silent film reference) saga.
Nonstop introduction of new species, New Enemies pretending to be friends, and totally improbable situations (nothing works right, and we escape anyway).
Looking at book 3 description, I fear more of the same. Sorry I wasted 2 credits.
I did enjoy the narration. A good storytelling pace and timbre. Not the 100% breathless, panic-in-the-voice of some similar series.

Then, one morning, she is kidnapped, interviewed, and hired as an administrative assistant by the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection. Superheroes for hire, using their powers for good. Brooklyn Valley Girl meets Hitchhiker's GttG Story
Revisado: 12-30-22
Remember the "Improbably Drive" in HhGttG? The more unlikely an event, the more likely it was to occur.
Well, now imagine that "engine" being used to write a story about a here-to-aimless girl finding her place in a world of "improbable" super-heroes and "improbable" super-villians and space-invaders in the voice of a "Valley Girl" born and raised in Brooklyn.
I did listen to the end. Why? I guess, to see what crazy, improbable twist was next.

The starship Earthling, filled with thousands of hibernating colonists en route to a new world at Tau Ceti, is stranded beyond the solar system when the ship's three organic mental cores—disembodied human brains that control the vessel's functions—go insane. The emergency skeleton crew sees only one chance for survival: build an artificial consciousness in the Earthling's primary computer that can guide them to their destination—and hope it doesn't destroy the human race.

I read Needle around 1955, 5th grade, and have thought of it regularly ever since. One of 2 or 3 early books that made me a life-long SiFi affectianado.
"Through the Eye..." was like a chance encounter with a long-lost favorite cousin. And a walk back in time.

Historia
Captain Jackson Wolfe never thought he'd see the end of the Phage War in his lifetime. The enemy was too powerful, too numerous, and utterly determined to exterminate humanity. But the appearance of a new ally in the fight has changed all of that. For the first time since the original incursion, Wolfe thinks that maybe there's a chance to stop their implacable enemy before they have the chance to wipe out any more human planets.
