Facets of an extraordinary life. There is little that Reeves doesn't touch in in this... sadly last memoir of his. Humor, coping, setbacks, breakthroughs... this one has it all. Highly recommend.

This book, while enjoyable, is more focused on the How instead of the Why. I think it keeps the momentum from building and sucking the reader into who the characters are and why they are doing what they are doing.

A great author can weave the text almost seemingly effortlessly blending the motivation, setting, personalities and other factors into the plot of the book.

Rothfuss does it well. What is Sympathy, how is it different from Magic, how it works... doesn't interfere with the setting - the fashion, rumor, prejudices, food, politics etc. And then add in motivation and you've got your story.

Dungeonborn gets there in the end, but much like Ready Player One more is spent on How the Setting works rather than Why we care.

One of my favorite guilty pleasures, I finally listened to the basis novel of the movie. I am glad to find that Parker is and remains a great bad guy that you root for. First a tale of revenge and then a tale of principle, Parker scythes his way through the tale, searching for meaning in this world of criminals. A great beginning to a literary character.

The premise is sound. What do NPC's do when a party on an adventure die suddenly in their tavern? They panic over what the mad King might do... if he ever finds out.

The story, though, doesn't flow like a fantasy tale by Martin, Tolkien, Rothfuss or Abercrombie. Boxed within terms used by the game system, the prose feels a little more stilted. Spells do not shake the earth while the rending twilight with vibrant blue lightning leaving the point of view character amazed by the wandering wizard's skill, they have a name: Frostbolt, and they come out of a spell book. Otherworldly creatures and their twisted forms are not described by what can be glimpsed in the shadows their dripping fangs and slithering quick gait conjuring images in your mind... They are called goblins, or kobolds.

As such this book reminded me of simpler fantasy novels like Dragonlance or the works of Salvatore read at a younger age. This is by no means a bad thing, but should be considered when purchasing.
