Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Historia
After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

Historia
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, one renowned scientist, in his famous bowtie, appeared daily on major news networks such as MSNBC, NPR, the BBC, and others. Dr. Peter J. Hotez often went without sleep, working around the clock to develop a nonprofit COVID-19 vaccine and to keep the public informed. During that time, he was one of the most trusted voices on the pandemic and was even nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his selfless work. He also became one of the main targets of anti-science rhetoric that gained traction through conservative news media.

AN URGENT WARNING TO THE WORLD
Revisado: 11-24-23
I have watched the rise of a politically motivated drive to misinform, disinform and turn people against science with deliberate lies and "alternative facts".
This is appalling and Dr. Hotez is a true hero for standing up against those who have their own agendas. I say this as a combat veteran. The future I fought for is in serious peril. This book is an important wake up call.

Historia
On a lazy, quiet afternoon, in the blink of an eye, our world shatters into two parallel universes as men vanish from women and women from men. After families and loved ones separate from one another, life continues in very different ways for men and women, boys and girls. An explosion of violence sweeps one world that still operates technologically; social stability and peace in the other are offset by famine and a widespread breakdown in machinery and science.

few decades ago & was glad to find it here. Imagine this was published in 1951 so it was written even earlier.
One day all women & girls disappear from the Earth...at least it seems so to the men & boys. The same thing has happened to the women...all men & boys disappear. Planes & cars crash, bombs drop...
The story is how each sex handles this catastrophe. Even what we're doing to the planet is a thread throughout.
The author's philosophical conclusion of how & why this happened is so far ahead of its time--it's amazing. Another reviewer stated it's a "men are from Mars, women are from Venus" theme. Quite the opposite...as time passes after the initial event--you'll be surprised at this novel from 1951.

GREAT NARRATION BUT COULD DO WITHOUT SOUND EFFECTS
Revisado: 10-27-23
Sounds effects really annoying if your a going-to-sleep audiobook reader.
Have read or listened to virtually all of Stephen King's books & a big fan.
Not that crazy about the ending. Others probably like it. Recommend. Just realize there are screechy sound effects.

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Another great thriller from Stephen King.
Revisado: 09-28-23
A great thriller & Will Patton is a terrific narrator. (My spouse & I were in small parts in one of Patton's movies!)
Make sure to also watch the 3 season, 30 episode series of MR MERCEDES on HULU adaptation. Had actually watched the series first. But you won't be repeating the same story AT ALL.
Brendan Gleeson as Bill Hodges, Jrerrel Jerome as as Jerome, Justine Luke as Holly, Harry Treadaway as Brady & the fantastic Breeda Wool as a much bigger player in the role of Freddie in the novel but with a different name.
Adds new scenes and a completely different ending.
King went on to add 4 other novels continuing the series:
FINDERS KEEPERS; END OF WATCH; THE OUTSIDER (which became a mini-series) and the most recent, HOLLY--set during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Great reads as always.

EXCELLENT STORY WITH SUCH UNUSUAL VILLAINS!
Revisado: 09-25-23
Set in the current time of COVID-19. I am so amused by the petty Trumper who are so exorcize by Holly's COVID precautions--mild compared to many people, particularly in 2021.
Great continuation of the character from Mr. Mercedes.
Kudos to Mr. King for writing a book incorporating the pandemic, which will be with us for some time to come.
I've researched COVID-19 & the SARSCoV2 virus for over 3 & 1/2 years. I'd love to see him take on a horror book related to a new spillover from one of the many non-human animal hosts with a high mortality rate.
