His WORST EVER… so bad he can’t
Revisado: 11-05-23
… so bad that he can’t possibly write a worse, or more boring story. A mix of typical Dan Brown and paranormal sci-fi. The story got worse and worse until it fizzled and died a pathetic death. SO DISAPPOINTING. PS, for the sake of variety and readers’ surprise, can you NOT have a character for once that doesn’t turn into the main antagonist?

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

Cringe-worthy, totally uninteresting stories. Irrelevant unless you’re aspiring to earn a PHD in Victorianism :)

Historia
A major North American hydroelectric dam is blown up and the largest off-shore oil field in this hemisphere is destroyed in a brutal, coordinated terrorist attack. But there was one factor that the terrorists didn't take into account when they struck the Capitana platform off the coast of Colombia—slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform—and that was the Capitana crew chief Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun.

All-time Best Narrator!!
Revisado: 05-03-18
The story is top notch no doubt, but the reader is the best of the best of the best narrators in my experience of listening to thousands of books since the late 80s. Impeccable, non-distracting accents & voices, as well as perfect cadence, pace and intonation enhancing each scene’s mood and excitement level. I hope he’s signed up to read all upcoming novels from DanBrown, Clancy, V Flynn et al that fall in this genre.

Good story but...
Revisado: 02-07-18
..: the narraror's voice and tone are unnecessarily melancholic, making going back to the story to continue listening a bit uninviting. The mystery itself however, gave enough incentive to finish the book. A good story if you like this reader. Not a "cozy mystery" by any measure though!

Oscar-worthy Performance! Excellent Story
Revisado: 09-20-17
Any additional comments?
An "Epic" in the true sense of the word. The book covers many many more details, intrigues and plots than the mini-series (as is always the case...); try listening here and watching bits on youtube concurrently for a multimedia experience.
Ralph Lister's narration is on par with the best of the best -- as much of a gold standard as Jim Dale w Potter series in terms of the perfection of "voice characters" and everything else (M Brando and Merril Streep wrapped into one :-) as Lister expertly renders both male and female voices and carries the tone of the book to perfection).
The story is not a faced-paced spy thriller but a slow-smoldering web of events. Probably a man's story more than one for the lady listener, unlike Gabaldon's Outlander that almost led me to slit my wrist to put me outta the misery of finishing book one (agony factor of 1000).
Anyway, what a story!! And in the bargain, it schools the reader on the Japanese philosophy of life, at least circa 17th century. 50+ hours of entertainment for 1 credit ;-)

1 of the BEST of the Best in this genre!!!
Revisado: 06-18-16
If you could sum up Daemon in three words, what would they be?
As good as, if not fresher, more innovative and satisfying than the best work by the likes of Clancy, Dan Brown, Daniel Silva, Vince Flynn et al.
Which character – as performed by Jeff Gurner – was your favorite?
Excellent job for all characters!

Liked book 1, but gave up on 2
Revisado: 05-22-16
The story is good enough w ample twist and unpredictable plot. I suspect 70s hippies would relate to the theme and timeframe of this story but by less than 2hrs left I could no longer ignore the nasal unpleasant voice of the reader and deleted the book.
Also, one doesn't "fall in love" w the protagonist in the sense of rooting for her or wanting her to win; I just didn't care about her or her woes--the writer's failure to have us depose her enemies or even sympathize with her.

Excellent; Necessary Reading; A bit too long
Revisado: 05-01-16
If you could sum up Decisive in three words, what would they be?
highschool mandatory reading
What does Kaleo Griffith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Business books are ORDERS of magnitude more pleasant when listened to
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely Not. Too much info to digest/retain in one sitting.
Any additional comments?
If the abridged version comes out, I'll gladly pay for it to listen to the book again--the current version is a bit too tedious and is mis-balanced between story and actionable advice... authors go on and on before they throw you a morsel of tip/how-to.

Historia
Marvellously atmospheric tale of strangers summoned to a grand but neglected villa on the Italian coast. Each of them has been named in a will, but nobody knows their benefactress.... Four very different people are named in a will. Delia, an opera singer robbed of her voice by illness; George, an idealistic scientist who cannot face what his skills have created; Marjorie, desperately poor and unable to dislodge her writer’s block; and Lucius, ostensibly in control but whose personal life is in chaos.

Not riveting. I found The first 6 hours quite boring with no significant plot to speak of. The mystery unravels in the last hour; soap-operesque. Good if you'd like a stress-less , non-violent mystery that won't get your heart pulsating before bed
