Yes, this is a Series with four editions so far. No, you do not have to read the previous to enjoy the one you are reading. The mysterious appalachian music, heritage and custom draws you in with every word.
The Tufa Novels
The Hum and the Shiver: Book 1
Wisp of a Thing: Book 2
Long Black Curl: Book 3
Chapel of Ease: Book 4
There are also four short stories.
The audible narrator's dark chocolate voice brings it all to life. Stefan Rudniki could read anything and add character and color.

A Ton of science relayed to the reader with the easy conversational humor and entertaining manner of "A Brief History of Everything". The story will keep you waiting for "what next?" through to the very end.
I will be putting Andy Weir on my Author to Watch List.
The Narrator R. C. Bray is excellent and humorous himself with out distracting from the story as some narrators can.
I recommend spending a credit right now! This is a keeper for re-reads

Narrator change was just the horrible icing on the cake. Story was disjointed and shallow. Audio editing needs cleaning up. Narrator lost meanings, requiring multiple rewinds. Another cliffhanger leaving you where you were before reading this novel.

Tufa is Colorfully Rich and Deep

I Love this second in the Tufa novels. Wisp of a Thing is written from the perspective of an outsider in the closed and isolated Appalachian community of Needville, Tennessee who, when he first arrives is closed and isolated in his own grief. Music, magic, mystery and ancient Appalachian legends twine through the novel.

I wasn’t disappointed, this novel is better than the first. As colorfully rich, deep and three dimensional as the Richard Dadd oil painting referred to in this story.

Read by one of my favorite narrators Stefan Rudniki with his smooth dark chocolate voice brings this tale alive.

Clever Humorous Old Friend Chats About Everything

Cozy up… start your audiobook… prepare to listen to a clever, humorous old friend chat about everything. Really! Everything! Starting from the big bang through quantum theory in a conversational manner that digests these into easily absorbed bits of knowledge about... really everything!

While driving alone in my car on my long commute or grocery shopping, I wondered what others thought as I found myself smiling, or laughing out loud. Very unusual for me and not once or twice but many times came an out loud burst of laughter or smiling chuckles.

In the introduction the author admits that he realized that textbooks and teachers had taught him a lot of facts with which he had no connections. No who, what, where, when that was real. No mental concepts that equated with even a small understanding.

Bill Bryson uses his own personal word magic to draw in our minds vivid sketches of scientific discovery through the people who made them. These sketches use amusing cameos of the scientists themselves to bring to life the scientific discoveries.

Richard Matthews narration is charming with his smooth British voice, the accent is somehow so appropriate. I will never tire of his voice.

I will continue to listen to this again and again on my all-time favorite audiobook to repeat list.

The ?Otori Trilogy? is very worthwhile reading. Be sure to get all three at once as you will not want to wait a moment to start the next in the series. Well written and populated with characters you want to know more of.
The narrator?s voices are perfect and the beauty and mystery of the tale leave you with the same feeling as a Tea Ceremony.
