Historia
Jonathan Haidt skillfully combines two genres-philosophical wisdom and scientific research-delighting the listener with surprising insights. He explains, for example, why we have such difficulty controlling ourselves and sticking to our plans; why no achievement brings lasting happiness, yet a few changes in your life can have profound effects, and why even confirmed atheists experience spiritual elevation.

Good not great
Revisado: 04-07-25
The book has some interesting elements and it is a good and interesting read. I didn’t like the author taking for granted the hypothesis of natural selection and base his thinking on it. It is not a fact but a hypothesis!

Historia
To the wider world, Al Pacino exploded onto the scene like a supernova. He landed his first leading role, in The Panic in Needle Park, in 1971, and by 1975, he had starred in four movies—The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, Serpico, and Dog Day Afternoon—that were not just successes but landmarks in the history of film. Those performances became legendary and changed his life forever. Not since Marlon Brando and James Dean in the late 1950s had an actor landed in the culture with such force.

I sometimes got lost in what he was talking about. I also got tired of his raspy voice. I enjoyed it but didn’t love it.

Our obsession is so high that we think going through pain just for the purpose of accomplishing a goal is worth it.

All of us long to know what life after death will be like. Best-selling author John Burke is no exception. In Imagine Heaven, Burke compares over 100 gripping stories of near-death experiences (NDEs) to what Scripture says about our biggest questions of heaven: Will I be myself? Will I see friends and loved ones? What will heaven look like? What is God like? What will we do forever? What about children and pets?

Couldn’t stand narrator
Revisado: 03-10-24
The story is very good. Amazing to see all testimonials from different places and ages and yet so close to scripture. The narration is horrible. Every testimony had to be with a “different voice”. Why? I don’t make fake kids or women’s voices when I’m reading. I would recommend buying the book not the audiobook.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

A homosexual novel…
Revisado: 09-05-23
This is a basic homosexual novel using Greek mythology. No more…. I didn’t know what to expect and tried to listen with open mind until it was just a boring “love” story…. Good performance by narrator.

Historia
Why do people dodge responsibility when things fall apart? Why the parade of public figures unable to own up when they screw up? Why the endless marital quarrels over who is right? Why can we see hypocrisy in others but not in ourselves? Are we all liars? Or do we really believe the stories we tell? Renowned social psychologists Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson take a compelling look into how the brain is wired for self-justification.

Great or horrible?
Revisado: 02-24-23
I guess the biggest learning from this book is the need to personally create a bigger filter to my thoughts and prejudices. Wait for the evidence to be completely shown and acknowledge what is missing instead of jumping into conclusions.
I loved the book and learned a lot!
Our memory might fool us. Our thoughts might fool us. Everything in line to avoid dissonance.
If you read reviews about how awful this book is you can be sure that this particular person didn’t learn and understand what was being taught.

Historia
A down-to-earth global pop star. A deeply spiritual, cerebral powerhouse. A famously outspoken introvert. For her millions of fans, and the few unacquainted, defining rock luminary Alanis Morissette is an exercise in dichotomies and nuance. And though her most formidable traits are seemingly at odds with one another, they are, oddly enough, completely emblematic of all of us: complex, conflicting, and, most importantly, ever evolving. With her striking command of language and profound emotional fluency, the 46-year-old covers an enormous amount of personal ground with listeners.

Historia
In the 1860s, Napoleon III, intent on curbing the rise of American imperialism, persuaded a young Austrian archduke and a Belgian princess to leave Europe and become the emperor and empress of Mexico. They and their entourage arrived in a Mexico ruled by terror, where revolutionary fervor was barely suppressed by French troops. When the United States, now clear of its own Civil War, aided the rebels in pushing back Maximilian’s imperial soldiers, the French army withdrew, abandoning the young couple. The regime fell apart.

I really enjoyed it and kept listening as much as I could. My only concern was the narrator imitating women’s voices which didn’t make sense at all. I don’t read a book and then switch my own voice to make me think it’s a woman speaking…
