Here is Jim Morrison in all his complexity; singer, philosopher, poet, delinquent, the brilliant, charismatic, and obsessed seeker who rejected authority in any form, the explorer who probed "the bounds of reality to see what would happen".

Audible Version
Revisado: 05-07-25
I wish I had paid more attention. The version on Audible is abridged and doesn’t do Jim, Sugerman, The Doors, or their fans any justice. Just the highlights (or lowlights) of Jim’s 27 years on earth. I remember actually reading the book in high school and it made me even more of a fan than I already was. If this version had been an “introduction” of Jim, like it may be for newer fans today, I don’t know if I would have been as “hardcore” of a fan as I am now, thanks to reading the unabridged version all those years ago. So, if you’re interested, please find the unabridged version and you can thank me later!

Historia
To the average American, there was nothing out of the ordinary about Edmund Kemper before 1973. Standing at six-foot-nine, the young man was a giant, but he was gentle, soft spoken, and shy. He lived with his mother into his mid-20s and frequented local bars, cozying up to police officers. This was one reality of Kemper's life - the reality he wanted those around him to see. There was another side to the man though, a much darker side. Kemper's actions in his life shocked America, who dubbed him the Co-Ed Killer for his urge to murder and violate co-ed girls in Northern California.

For a short “review” of Kemper and his crimes, it was pretty good. Probably a good place for those who don’t know much about him to start.

Historia
One of the most feared Chicago mobsters, Sam Giancana, clawed his way to the top of the Mafia hierarchy by starting as a hit man for Al Capone. He was known as one of the best vehicle escape artists, a tenacious business man, and a ruthless killer. He partied with major stars such as Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe and did business with agents ranging from the CIA to the Vatican to the shah of Iran. When politician Joe Kennedy gave Giancana the chance to use mob muscle to get his son John elected, Giancana jumped at the task.

Who Is This About?
Revisado: 11-15-24
I thought I was listening to a bio on SAM Giancana. I feel like I learned more about Chuck Giancana. Oh, you don’t know who Chuck is? Listen to this and you’ll constantly be reminded that he was Sam’s brother who wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with Sam. But yeah, tell me more about him and how he and his family kept far away from Sam and his dealings. When the author does decide to talk about Sam, it’s usually stuff that has been known for years or, like with Marilyn, rumors. This guy told that guy who knew Marilyn’s hairdresser type of stuff. Oh, and don’t get me started on the narrator. Dude is constantly saying people’s names wrong all throughout.

Join Greg Laurie as he takes a cross-country drive in his 1968 Highland Green Ford Mustang 390 GT through the canyons of Malibu, the alleys of Hollywood, the wide and open roads of the Midwest, the streets of New York, as he traces the wooly geography of actor Steve McQueen's life, relationships, career, and spiritual journey. In the 1960s, McQueen was, according to box office receipts, the biggest movie star of his generation and one of the coolest men to ever walk the planet.

Note To Self…
Revisado: 04-14-24
… when picking a book to listen to on Audible, read the ENTIRE title! But seriously, I decided to listen to this on Audible because I was wanting to hear a good McQueen bio. Unfortunately this author spends just as much, if not more, time talking about himself. Look at me, I’m just like Steve McQueen because we both believed in Christianity. The author spends more time putting himself over than either Steve or Jesus/God. I guess I will have to find another bio of McQueen so that I can actually learn about him and his life. GOD knows I didn’t learn a whole lot here! Praise Jason! 🤘🏼

What A Life!
Revisado: 03-04-24
Being a Doors and David Lynch fan I figured I would give this bio a chance. I’m really glad I did. Not only were the stories enjoyable (even the “Little House…” stories) but her reading of the book made it feel like you were listening to a friend talk about her adventures. Highly recommended if you’re a fan of Charlotte Stewart in any of her many roles!

Rock and roll in the BC (Before Cooper) era was a tamer, milder world. In Who I Really Am, Cooper’s latest addition to Audible’s Words + Music series, we learn how the boa-wearing (not the feathered kind) maestro arrived at a show and sound - let’s call it AC for After Cooper - that has entertained millions of kids while terrifying parents in equal measure. Cooper drew inspiration from Saturday matinee horror movies, applied a "no such thing as too much" attitude, and hitched it to a kick-ass rock and roll band.

Revisado: 04-28-23
By far the BEST in the “Words & Music” series. I was pleasantly surprised by how much he spoke about the A.C. Band days. The only thing it was missing imo, was his friendship with Groucho Marx. It also made me realize, the world needs a full on Alice “unplugged” album!

I Just Wish It Was Longer!!!!
Revisado: 03-11-23
As a kid, Roald Dahl was one of my favorite authors. He was partly responsible for my love of reading/listening to a good book/story. Listening to these various clips of interviews he gave throughout his life reminded me how “fun” he was. I’d definitely recommend to anybody who is a fan of Mr. Dahl! The world needs more people like him.

Historia
Rasputin claimed to see the future and possess the power to heal. He was a god of hypnosis and mesmerism and a master of trickery and deception that caused fits of spiritual excitement among his followers, but was he a mystic or a con man? Rasputin's eyes stare at us across the generations in this expose of a complex man. He held a god-like power over his female followers and mesmerized Tsar Nicholas II, the last monarch of Russia which many say eventually led to the downfall of the last Russian dynasty.
