Time Travel Trip to the 1970's with Cops & Ex-Cops

The Long Lost Ralph Dennis paperback novels have been resurrected in the form of Audiobooks. You can't smell or feel the dogeared yellowed pages as you hold it in your hands, but you can hear the dialogue of 1970's Atlanta Cops, Pimps, Gangsters, Hookers, and Beer Guzzling Ex-cops as they dodge bullets and trade punches while tracking down a killer, or killers unknown. Ralph Dennis weaves a tale that takes us through back alleys, dive bars, cheap hotels, luxury suites, and abandoned warehouses, with a new surprise at every turn. Then suddenly he wraps it up, and reveals the killer... and the story ends. Somehow I missed "WhoDunnit" and why... but he wrapped it up... put a bow on it... and grabbed another Beer, before heading home to feed the cat.

The Prologue and Epilogue were modern day essays on the Genre, Author, and cultural events during the time the story was written. A History Lesson, if you will... which really seemed out of place.

Brilliant writing, extraordinary narration, excellent engineering. Who could ask for anything more? I'll have to admit... The prologue left me wondering what the hell was going on. How the hell can I possibly listen to this if I'm so confused right at the start? But... I hung in there, and I'm so glad I did. Before the end of chapter one, I knew what universe I was in, and was thoroughly enjoying the journey. This is such a well crafted story, narrated by a master. The audio engineering was just the icing on a perfect cake. And to learn that there is another in the series, waiting in the wings? Wow! This book stands up by itself, and held my attention to the very end. If there is a follow-up to this amazing work, count me in.

Peter Thompson weaves a very believable tale. Gary Tiedemann brings it to life.

There are very few audiobooks I've listened to in one day... This is one of them. "Hit Me" held my attention from beginning to end.

Noah DeBiase did an amazing job at narrating and delivering a story I would not have followed through to the end if it were simply a book in my hands. There was some brilliant writing, and some not so much, but Noah held it together, and kept my attention though parts where I might have just closed the book and walked away.

A cautionary tale of a strange new world fought with hidden danger in the aftermath of an apocalypse. Kevin Pierce does a magnificent job of bringing these characters to life.

The author has an interesting idea. Same Characters, Same City, Different Apocalypse, Different outcome. Unfortunately I was stuck in the old Apocalypse during much of this story and it didn't quite work for me as well as I'd expect. This would have held up well if I hadn't listened to the first in the series, and could have stood up on its own. With memories of an earlier well crafted work stuck in my head I was left confused throughout the story, as my mind shifted between two different Alternate Universes, often wondering where I was. But... It's probably just me.

A post Apocalypse work of fiction, in which each and every bit of story line is completely believable. Tom Abrahams has written a well researched and accurate story, which is delivered by a narrator who is a master of the genre. Keven Pierce breathes life into this tale, lifting words from the page and delivering them in a way that had me there in the story... tasting the ash as it filtered through the burlap.

So many True Crime novels seem to be nothing more than a compilation of Cut and Paste Newspaper articles. The True Crime there is that the authors are simply repeating verbatim the works of other writers and reporters. That is not the case with "Targeted"... M. William Phelps has done an outstanding job of researching the story, interviewing witnesses and people directly involved in the case, and presenting it in his own captivating writing style. Couple that with the skillful delivery of Kevin Pierce, and you've got a compelling story that will keep you listening from beginning to end.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook.
