An interesting concept, just just shallowly executed

The idea of cyborg gladiators, fighting to be noticed by Ancient mythological gods is awesome. However everything just feels so shallowly delved into, from the characters and their growth (or lack there of), to the world they inhabit, and the power system as a whole. Combat seems staggered when the combatants twirl around to hit “combo orbs” in order to attack each other. If these combo orbs weren’t there, the fights would definitely feel more fluid.

I really enjoyed my time with this book. The story is smooth and refreshing from what I typically read. And the characters are all very enjoyable in their own ways!

I was really looking forward to this book, ever since finishing the first one, but was left pretty dissatisfied overall. Firstly, if you haven’t listened to the previous book since its original release, I can’t recommend more to going back and giving it a read-listen. I did not do this, and spent the entirety of the book confused on just how the magic and cultivation in this story worked, and unfortunately the author never rehashes how the system works in this book, or on their personal website. Cultivation aside, the majority of the book ends up feeling like jovial conversation between two or more of the characters, into time jumps of days or weeks, and you are just told that the characters improve without really seeing much of that. After about 3-4 rinse and repeats of this, you get short moments conflict that really lack any weight or stakes, before going back to the same minimum depth conversations and time jumps.
