Outstanding!

What a disappointment - horrible creative choice!!

Steven Weber is one of the most talented narrators working today. I'll listen to anything he records and have always enjoyed everything he does. And he was, as expected, BRILLIANT in this production.
BUT -- for some inexplicable reason, the producers decided to intersperse his narration with a female actor whose performance was SO inappropriate and disjointed that it interrupted the flow and excellence of this recording. Her director -- if she even had a director guiding her --allowed her to deliver an anquished, over-the-top emotionality which sounded amateurish and insincere. She sounded like a damsel in distress in a cheesy romance novel. It feels as if 2 productions were hot-glued together, with no consistency of style or theme.
I would have given the performance 5 stars if it was only Steven Weber narrating. Her involvement really detracts from the overall quality and experience. What a shame.

Untuck this recording quality

interesting information, impossible to listen to..

The information was fascinating. The production value was a disgrace.
I'm not talking about the $&#@ language. That was okay with me! But the audio quality was extremely amateurish. It sounded as if Dr. Harper were sitting in the bathroom and recording into her iPhone. Tinny, distant, and sloppy with lots of mistakes that weren't corrected. In many places the sound of it as if someone were talking to her, and even a few instances of traffic noise. It was insulting that this was released for distribution. Are people actually going to pay for this?
If the production was this sloppy, what does that say about her research?

A brilliant tour de force by sir Derek Jacobi. This diary touches subjects we wish to embrace and ignore all at the same time. Poignant, humorous, heartbreaking, and extremely rewarding.

Very disappointed in the narration

I couldn't finish the book. Jim Dale was seriously miscast in this project. There is a sense of foreboding and a monotonous read throughout the entire book. His female and young characters are unbelievable, as they all sound like aging caricatures. I enjoyed reading the book a few years ago, so this was a great disappointment.
