After listening to Oil! and the Jungle, I read the comments for King Coal and saw quite a few negative remarks with regards to its heavy-handed politics and poor side characters.

I must say I've enjoyed this one the most of all three. Filled with adventure and great character, King Coal was a joy to listen to.

Grover Gardner is an excellent narrator, mimicking accents and adding the emotions perfectly where necessary.

Upton's work always jumps into the political during the last third, but it was less start here than in the Jungle and especially Oil!

Definitely worth your while if you want to learn more about class struggles and prejudice in the coal camps in the early 1900's.

Great narration but do not go into this book expecting it to be like the film "There will be blood". The film features about 1% of the books contents, only using a few lines.
It's a powerful politic story. Would recommend I you have the time.

Classic book. Well written. But oh, such a bore. Couldn't keep me engage even with it's short run time.

Incredibly heinous book, but could appeal to those with a dark sense of humour. Nick Landrum made it possible to listen to the whole thing, even it it is overly long and almost frantically scattered.

The message of the book is quite good and well carried over though. I'd recommend it if you can stomach it.
