A Rare Collection of the Very Best!
Revisado: 02-19-20
I have been a fan of Author John Flynn since his first Hugo Nomination in 2002. I voted for him, and was there at the Hugo Ceremony in San Jose when John autographed one of his books for me. Visions in Light and Shadow is a collection of John's very best short stories. Those stories include John Flynn's "A Gift of Verse," which was nominated for a Hugo in 2003, but then taken away from him because the story had appeared the year earlier. Regardless of when it appeared, this is probably one of the Best Short Stories ever written for the genre of Science Fiction! Other short stories that were published in the 1980s and 1990s and 2000s are on display here for you to listen to Geoffrey Boyes' narration and contemplate. John began writing thrillers in 2014, and I have actually missed his science fiction writing. The thrillers are outstanding, but I always thought Flynn's speculative work about the future was exceptional. Most editors in the late nineties and the early 2000s were smart in buying the author's short stories because they always added class to SF magazines. Now, with this beautifully-illustrated volume, you've got a rare collection of the very best. Enjoy!

Historia
When Inspector Kate Dawson, a homicide detective from the San Francisco Police Department, is called in the wee hours of the morning, little did she know what would be waiting for her on the tarmac of San Francisco International Airport. Air Force One has landed with a corpse in the lavatory; the victim is a beautiful Fox News reporter, known as the "fair and balanced" girl. Apparently, she enjoyed kinky foreplay, like having her oxygen supply limited, a gasper, but it just went too far...or did someone else take advantage and finish her off?

Ripped from the Headlines
Revisado: 02-19-20
This book is one of the best audio books I have ever listened to. The characters are real and just like your neighbors and friends. The suspense is riveting. And the plot seems to be ripped from the headlines. Very strong work, worthy of being made into a movie!

Historia
Inspector Kate Dawson is called to investigate a mass murder, a call that will change her life, and possibly the whole world - forever. Certain parents have been directed to put their children to death. They believe they are the Chosen Ones, destined by God to inherit the Earth. The charismatic leader of End Times Ministries, whose grand plan includes stoking the fires of Armageddon, has ordered parishioners to close ranks and prepare for a holy war. Kate Dawson knows this is not God’s will, but that of a dangerous, diabolical cult leader who controls the lives of his people.

Thrilling Mystery! Well Told!
Revisado: 12-13-19
The murder-suicide that kicks off Flynn's latest Kate Dawson book is shocking, to say the least, as is the alcohol-induced nightmare that rouses the Homicide Inspector from sleep. Both signal a dark and ominous tale to come. Members of a religious cult known as the End-Time Ministries have grown impatient waiting for the Rapture, and the cult leader has taken upon himself a plan to destroy San Francisco and most of the West Coast with a stolen nuke and thus trigger World War 3. Kate Dawson stands in the way of his nefarious plan. I must confess this was my favorite of Kate Dawson books. She is fighting delayed trauma from her previous case, and not at her best; she makes mistakes, and may in fact be out of her depth when it comes to stopping the bad guys; but Flynn's development of her character is well-managed, making her seem less like a superhero and more like a real human being with genuine character flaws. I liked this portrait of the protagonist very much as she was far more relate-able to the average reader. If I had wanted a superhero, I would have picked up a comic book instead. She struggles, and ultimately faces off against her greatest fears. I also felt this mystery-thriller was well-told. All too often, in stories of this kind, the bad guys are generic Middle Eastern terrorists with no real identity. The End-Timers as they are called are far scarier to me because they truly believe that what they are doing is right and justified; the best bad guys are always the ones who believe they are doing good. I would highly recommend this audio book!

Historia
Life on the planet Jupiter? Former Senator Mitchell Ryan had always been told the violent, storm-tossed world was devoid of life. He had dismissed rumors of a strange life form living in the energy rich atmosphere as mere fantasy. Confronted with several mysterious deaths, sabotage, and similar acts of terrorism - possibly perpetrated by wealthy politicians who profit from the current crisis of fear - Ryan faces a dilemma that will change his life and determine the fate of the solar system forever.

One of the Best SF Novels I've Read This Year!
Revisado: 11-11-19
The Jovian Dilemma is one of the BEST science fiction novels I've read this year. It has action, romance, adventure on a grand scale, social commentary, engaging characters, remarkable aliens (--gotta love those Jovians!!--), mystery, suspense, scientific speculation about our future, great writing, and not a single cute robot or light sabre in sight. Okay, so when does the movie come out? Can't wait to see those special effects!

Forget 50 Shades! This is the Real Deal!
Revisado: 09-13-19
I've been telling those fans of 50 Shades of Gray and its two sequels that the real deal is Intimate Bondage. Released about the same time, Intimate Bondage was written by Christian Gray's therapist, Dr. John Flynn, and it is the romance-mystery tale that 50 Shades should have been. Intimate Bondage is now available as an audio book. I'm on a mission to tell the world to buy this book if they want truly, extraordinary characters, a Dom-sub romance, a real murder mystery set in the fetish underground of San Francisco, and a well-constructed plot that will keep you guessing. I enjoyed reading it twice when it came out, and now that I've listened to it on audio books, my love for this book has been rekindled. Do yourself a favor, and cuddle up with a well-written work. You can thank me later.

Eagerly Awaited! First-rate Entertainment!
Revisado: 08-27-19
I am a fan of the Kate Dawson thrillers! I have been eagerly awaiting this audio book since the author tweeted about his detective series being made into audio books. I had read the print book earlier in the year, and loved it. So, when the audio book came out, I cleared my calendar and listened with glee. This is first-rate entertainment! Boyes as the narrator makes the story come alive, like a big-screen production, with his clever take on each of the off-beat characters. Now, if only some big-time Hollywood producer would take notice, this would make an excellent series of films! I can imagine Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role as Kate Dawson. Forget the James Bond series! This woman detective would easily make you forget 007, and have you subscribing to each audio book!
