Historia
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Outstanding from start to finish.
Revisado: 02-24-24
The attention to detail regarding the Vietnam War was impressive. Throughout the book were rich descriptions of every aspect of the time period, from horrific operating room accounts to the heights and depths of love, loss, and addiction. So much was packed into the book, there was no room for boredom. One of Kristin Hannah’s very best! I did not want it to end.

Doctoral student here. Enjoyed this episode a lot, but it looks like he gave up on the podcast. Would love to know how his journey is still going.

Historia
Dr. L.A. Davis earned her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership with an Emphasis in Development in 2018. Her dissertation focused on the blind or visually impaired to understand how this population perceived employment, and how those perceptions motivated them to seek employment. In her first book, she writes about her experience as an online doctoral learner, the difficulties she faced, and how the words “Thank You” changed her journey.

Opened this doctoral learner’s eyes
Revisado: 06-23-22
Dr.Davis,
Thank you for writing this book. I am a doctoral learner, studying online at the same university you write about (I’m guessing, but fairly certain). I am near the end of my 4th class, and so far, it’s wonderful. You book showed me some realities I hadn’t a clue about. Thank you so much for all the insight and advice you provided. I won’t soon forget it. In fact, I will be reading your book over to make sure I caught everything. Congratulations on all your hard work and your success! You inspire! I am 68 years old, and I am no quitter, and now I have valuable information to help in numerous ways. Thank you again.

In the rugged Pacific Northwest lies the Olympic National Forest - nearly a million acres of impenetrable darkness and impossible beauty. From deep within this old growth forest, a six-year-old girl appears. Speechless and alone, she offers no clue as to her identity, no hint of her past.

Each Kristin Hannah book I read seems even better than the one before. Magic Hour was no exception. I love how the author develops each character so fully, and brings you right into the story. Excellent read!

It's January 1943 when Rita Vincenzo receives her first letter from Glory Whitehall. Glory is an effervescent young mother, impulsive and free as a bird. Rita is a sensible professor's wife with a love of gardening and a generous, old soul. Glory comes from New England society; Rita lives in Iowa, trying to make ends meet. They have nothing in common except one powerful bond: The men they love are fighting in a war a world away from home. Brought together by an unlikely twist of fate, Glory and Rita begin a remarkable correspondence.

One of my faves of the year!
Revisado: 04-24-21
I was surprised by this book. It was only to be a read in between other, more anticipated ones, but ended up outshining them all. And the narrators couldn’t have been better. I’m so glad I chose this book. I’m 67 and it reminded of a few beautiful friends I’ve known and cherished for decades.
I highly recommend this wonderful book!

Historia
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book
Revisado: 02-19-21
From the storyline and characters to the history and suffering of the Great Depression, this book kept me hanging on every word. It would make an amazing movie! The narration was the best I’ve heard on any audible book. I highly recommend this book to everyone, but be prepared for a story of struggle, suffering, and bravery you will never forget.
