Historia
Since its original publication by Little, Brown and Company, in 1942, Edith Hamilton's Mythology has sold millions of copies throughout the world and established itself as a perennial best-seller in its various available formats. Mythology succeeds like no other audiobook in bringing to life for the modern listener the Greek, Roman, and Norse myths and legends that are the keystone of Western culture - the stories of gods and heroes that have inspired human creativity from antiquity to the present.

I read this as a teen and really enjoyed it. After listening to it, I realize there is so much I've forgotten.

I wished that there was a greater pause between stories. they seem to run immediately after another finishes.

Historia
Written at the request of Charles Dickens, North and South is a book about rebellion that poses fundamental questions about the nature of social authority and obedience. Gaskell expertly blends individual feeling with social concern and her heroine, Margaret Hale, is one of the most original creations of Victorian literature. When Margaret Hale's father leaves the Church in a crisis of conscience she is forced to leave her comfortable home in the tranquil countryside of Hampshire....

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Amazing story
Revisado: 03-12-24
I loved the details and how the author presented the time period. I can't imagine the amount of research was needed to do this. The narrator was also great and read the book with empathy.
There was also one tiny section of the book where the volume went low (it was a few words and it was the end of the sentence). I believe this was in the last chapter or chapter 17. it picked up the correct volume immediately after the few words were read. Not sure why that happened. I had never experienced that before in Audible.
My one complaint is about the lack of photos. Non fiction books like this and others I've read usually have historical photos. I would love it if Audible could find a way to present them. As I was listening I looked up photos of the real people, but would have appreciated seeing the pictures included in the book. This applies to all non fiction books I've read through Audible.

Historia
In 1857, a woman escaped enslavement on a North Carolina plantation and fled to a farm in New York. In hiding, she worked on a manuscript that would make her famous long after her death. The novel, The Bondwoman’s Narrative, was first published in 2002 to great acclaim, but the author’s identity remained unknown. Over a decade later, Professor Gregg Hecimovich unraveled the mystery of the author’s name and, in The Life and Times of Hannah Crafts, he finally tells her story.

Amazing research
Revisado: 02-10-24
I'm just stunned at how many details they brought together and they aren't done. I'm sure there's more to be found. I hope Ms. Hannah's pen didn't go completely silent after writing her only known work. I have the book and plan to read it next.
I don't think the book quite conveys the time it took and the beautiful threads that came together for them to be able to tell this story. I feel thankful for all their work.

A New York Times Top 10 Book of the Year and National Book Award finalist, Pachinko is an "extraordinary epic" of four generations of a poor Korean immigrant family as they fight to control their destiny in 20th-century Japan (San Francisco Chronicle). In the early 1900s, teenaged Sunja, the adored daughter of a crippled fisherman, falls for a wealthy stranger at the seashore near her home in Korea. He promises her the world, but when she discovers she is pregnant - and that her lover is married - she refuses to be bought.

This is the fastest I've ever listened to an audiobook. I haven't seen the show and didn't know much about the story. I am a fan of K dramas and thought this would be good to listen to between shows.. it didn't disappoint. It's moving and descriptive, I feel I learned a lot while also being entertained. Sometimes I wished the author gave us more details as there was plenty to say as the lives of the family members progressed. The author was clear and did a great job.

Justin C. Key has long been obsessed with monsters. Reading R. L. Stine’s Goosebumps as a kid, he imagined himself battling monsters and mayhem to a triumphant end. But when watching Scream 2, in which the movie’s only Black couple is promptly killed off, he realized that the Black and Brown characters in his favorite genre were almost always the victim or villain—if they were portrayed at all.

Loved the storytelling and characters
Revisado: 12-15-23
I decided to buy this audiobook after reading an article on People Magazine. I hadn't heard anything about the author or the book before that, I'm glad I did 😉 When the stories started I didn't quite know where the characters were leading me, but then without realizing it, I was caught up and fully invested and often wished to know more once they ended. Loved Spider King... Looking forward to more of your work in the future.

Entertaining and Descriptive
Revisado: 10-19-23
I bought this because I saw the trailer for the movie and thought it would be interesting to listen to while baking or driving to work. I really enjoyed the back and forth of past and present. I wish I knew more about Mom, but our narrator does all she can to provide us with view and memory of events. This book kept my attention from beginning to end... and I still wanted more.
