Historia
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

One of my favorite books to listen to
Revisado: 07-25-13
What made the experience of listening to A Prayer for Owen Meany the most enjoyable?
Joe Barrett narrated this perfectly. I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed the book nearly as much if someone else narrated or I read it myself - and as a reader, that is quite the compliment.
Any additional comments?
I will admit that I wasn't grabbed from the very beginning, but once I disappeared into the story I couldn't get out. I usually listen to books while running or on long drives. I listened to this book at every opportunity and I even drove around the block a few times to hear the end of the part/scene.

Historia
In Three Stations, Arkady Renko’s skills are put to their most severe test. Though he has been technically suspended from the prosecutor’s office for once again turning up unpleasant truths, he strives to solve a last case: the death of an elegant young woman whose body is found in a construction trailer on the perimeter of Moscow’s main rail hub. It looks like a simple drug overdose to everyone—except to Renko, whose examination of the crime scene turns up some inexplicable clues.

total bummer

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I'd recommend this book to a friend who has already read all the arkady renko novels and is wondering whether or not to read the last one. Otherwise, not a chance.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
When other arkady renko books ended there was that feeling of saying goodbye to an old friend. When this one ended - eh...
What didn’t you like about Ron McLarty’s performance?
Totally the wrong voice. It came out of left field. It felt more like a NYC detective with Russian names rather than the Arkady I know - cynical and laced with amused irony (and perhaps a wee bit curmudgeon). The voice was actually distracting. Please, re-record it with Henry Strozier or Frank Muller. Though I prefered Strozier - they were both Arkady. McLarty definitely was not.

Historia
When Marshal of the Nobility Pozdnyshev suspects his wife of having an affair with her music partner, his jealousy consumes him and drives him to murder. Controversial upon publication in 1890, The Kreutzer Sonata illuminates Tolstoy's then-feverish Christian ideals, his conflicts with lust and the hypocrisies of nineteenth-century marriage, and his thinking on the role of art and music in society.

Excellent and unlike others, I really enjoyed the narration. It's crisp and, in my mind, is characteristically appropriate.

This is a thrilling historical account of the worst cholera outbreak in Victorian London and a brilliant exploration of how Dr. John Snow's solution revolutionized the way we think about disease, cities, science, and the modern world.

excellent

This book is truly fantastic. Thoroughly engaging and covers much more than simply London's cholera outbreak, and yet did an excellent job doing that as well. I keep it on my Garmin at all times. I can't say enough about this book.
