Narrator is BAD. Walker has done an enormous disservice to the book. He is PROFOUNDLY bad at reading aloud. I have listened to A.I.’s that do a better job with inflection and frankly, his attempts at providing foreign accents (or, indeed changing his voice for any quotes) are just irritatingly awful, childish, and stupid. I had to stop listening. Just… atrociously bad.

I will be returning the audible version and buying the book, instead. The content of the book is good.

This book contains a lot of interesting and valuable information as it relates to trauma and its consequences, but Dr. Maté exposes himself far to often as anti-capitalist and pro-communist, eventually praising and quoting Karl Marx. This is apparently an economics book opposing “globalized capitalism” claiming, among other things, that “the obesity epidemic corresponds to neoliberalism.”

Here’s one example, “an appalling example of how rampant free-enterprise materialism has hijacked neurophysiology to deregulate the brain just as it deregulates the financial markets.” I feel sorry for anyone who is convinced by this and can't separate correlation from causation. I expected more from Dr. Maté. My mistake.

The Myth of Normal is filled with biased, lazy, uncritical, and convenient cherry picking. There are other reasons to explain lack of meaning for the individual than this tirade of anti-corporate nonsense and “deliberate corporate conspiracies” as he repeatedly suggests, but I’m not sure Audible will publish this review if I recommend other books here.

Terence Stamp delivers an incredible performance of truly profound and difficult material. I typically listen to books at 1.5x or 2x but, in this case, I enjoyed it at 1x and will most likely listen a second time during a long road trip or vacation.
David Carse provides a clear accounting and explanation of something that is, well, literally beyond explanation. I am grateful for having found this book at this point in my life and probably would not have been ready for it, earlier. Which is to say, I would recommend this book to someone who already has some experience with Advaita, but probably not to someone who has never meditated or wrestled with the (ultimately false) apparent duality of reality.

Highly recommended for fans of Carl Sagan, science, atheism, and/or humanity in general. This is a thoroughly enjoyable journal of personal and family history.

Clearly written and void of psychobabble, Dr. Gibson provides an accessible explanation of emotional immaturity in parents and the effects it has on children who grew up in their household. She helps readers understand a potential source of their emotional lives (valuable, itself), and offers solutions. You can’t finish this book without feeling a bit more empathy for yourself, and others. Highly recommended.
(Narration is done well, too.)

This book is a set of weak parables and imaginary conversations in which the author imagines he deposits his life-long lessons and Protestant values of hard work into the mind of an ambitious, but wayward, youth or, lecturing his friends about their financial/personal failures. It’s depressing, and a bit pathetic, that this book passes for financial education.

Vision boards, unseen forces, miracles, constant judgement and comparison with others. etc. I feel bad for anyone who finds value in this book. But, then, I feel that way about most of the Rich Dad series: life advice for dullards and dimwits.

To be clear, it’s not that I think the content here is always useless, bad, or actively detrimental. It’s just that it isn’t really substantive, and feels something more like a morality tale for the author to feel good about how he handled his personal tragedies and life choices.

I bought this book after listening to the author on the Making Sense podcast with Sam Harris, which was interesting.
This book, on the other hand, is much less so. I was frequently bored while listening, but soldiered on, determined to find a useful or meaningful perspective which had motivated me to purchase the book, originally. By the last chapter, I realized it was a waste of time. There is not a single memorable insight I will take away from this book, other than I should be more willing to leave one unfinished (and early on) when I find it to be this pointless.

Well-written and well-narrated. Easy to breeze through at 2x, and slow down for those sections that were new to me.
It starts with the most basic information for those new to commercial real estate and progresses with detailed and thorough explanations of complex situations and tax considerations that syndicate investors should know.
Highly recommended.

Jack Bogle was a giant among men. The financial industry lost a hero when he passed away earlier this year. This audiobook demonstrates his character, in every passing minute, with deep insight on the mutual fund industry and guidance that is suitable for every investor who aims to be an intelligent one. His advice is clear, sobering, and encouraging.

His wisdom is expertly presented by Sean Pratt. I’ve listened to at least two books from Mr. Pratt and this is, in my opinion, top notch. He honors Mr. Bogle’s genius with this performance.
