Historia
As a fixer for one of the New York Mafia families, Levi would rather keep a low profile. That changes when the Outfit, a mysterious organization, reaches out to him for assistance. Threats to a set of world leaders have been traced back to members of organized crime and their connection with government insiders from DC and Moscow. When dealing with criminals, Levi knows what to do. However, when he finds himself immersed in a world filled with smiling officials, political apparatchiks, and deceit beyond compare, he learns why some people think of government as The Swamp.

My fourth Levi Yoder book, and it didn’t disappoint!
Revisado: 09-14-24
I’m not good at reviewing books, but author is my new favorite, as is his Levi Yoder character. I’m also a fan of the descriptions he gives regarding current events, and scientific research on equipment he uses for his characters. The performance by Tim Campbell is also excellent, and I’ll be searching for other books performed by him when I’m done with all of Rothman’s other novels.

This is NOT the Twilight book you’re expecting…
Revisado: 09-17-23
The characters are all different. Total role reversal, with a male “Beau” Swan instead of Bella, and female vampire. It’s impossible for me to get into. If I had known, I would never have bought it.

Incessant Teenage Whining & Hysteria Becomes Tedio
Revisado: 09-20-20
Initially enjoyed the series, and the expected teen immaturity and angst. I continued through the series to this edition. This one, however, has pushed my patience a bit too far. There is no sign of growth or beginning of maturity, despite all she has been through and seen. Even as her incessant whining, entitlement, and stupid decisions cost her everything, she refuses to learn from mistakes or listen to more experienced peers. Add to this the squealing voice of the reader, and you may find yourself fast-forwarding through the worst of the “fingernails on a chalkboard” tone of the book.

Good story & performance—horrible pronunciation of names
Revisado: 05-30-19
Obviously, a great story to all those who are GOT fans, and the voice actor is quite good. One huge exception—the pronunciation of names is so distracting, that I didn’t immediately recognize who they were talking about. (Brienne of Tarth & Petyr Baelish are two that immediately come to mind). That said, if you can get past that, you’ll be able to enjoy it.

Good detective-style story, annoying mouth noises.
Revisado: 08-17-18
Good detective-style mage story, and was a fast "read." I enjoyed it enough to immediately purchase the next in the series. With all that said, I couldn't give it anything more than 4 stars due to the incredibly annoying mouth noises. I don't know if they need a mic sock, or for the reader to move further away from the mic, but the smacky, slurpy, mouth, lip and tongue noises were distracting to say the least, and disgusting at worst. He also has some really loud breathing noises going on. Occasionally it sounds as if he's adding heavy sighs into the read, and it sets the mood, but many times it serves no purpose but to make one believe he might be in ill health and having trouble breathing and talking at the same time. I will continue to listen into the second book, and hope for either better sound filtering, or perhaps I'll become immune to it.

The relentless high pitched whining ruined this book. Her character should have evolved into a tougher woman, but she even more whiny than the original stories.

They killed me. They healed me. They changed me. Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was mine. I was doing fine until Chicago's vampires announced their existence to the world---and then a rogue vampire attacked me. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker...and this one decided that the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead.

Decent Series, but Narration is One-Dimensional
Revisado: 06-17-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Decent vampire series, but seems more geared to teens and young adults. The main problem with the book is the narration. It's completely one dimensional, and is, at times, very difficult to figure out which character is speaking. All of her voices sound the same. I'm giving the series one more shot and will listen to the second book, in hopes that she's added some different characteristics. It also appears that, starting in the 6th book, there's a new narrator. After listening to the sample, it seems they might get much better.

Overall, a good book. Interesting storyline.
Revisado: 04-18-17
Where does Blood of the Earth rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
On a scale of one to ten, it's a seven.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Not sure how to spell his name, but "Hokum" (sp?) the Werecat.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No.
Any additional comments?
Two major annoyances.
First, the constant talking about chewing, slurping, sipping, swallowing, ad infinitum, becomes more and more tedious with each book. Stop it already. Everyone knows what happens when you eat. Seems like it's just used as filler.
Second, the storylines revolve around teams that are "highly trained" and some are either law enforcement, or prior military. Her knowledge about guns seems to come from an amature gun safety class, and not true experience as a law enforcement professional.
After every incident, she always has the character remove the magazine from the weapon she's using, and clear the bullet from the chamber before holstering it. No law enforcement or combat experienced soldier would holster an empty weapon, especially not out on the streets. When the poop hits the fan, you do NOT want an empty chamber in your weapon. By the time you recognize there's a threat, draw the weapon, chamber a round, and aim at the threat, you're probably already shot. The second problem with that concept, is that if you're hiding from a threat and need to remain silent to prevent them from finding your position, if you rack a round in the chamber, you just gave up your position. She does the same thing with all her books, so it leaves her authenticity lacking. If she wants more realism in her books, I suggest she go take a tactical shooting course. Front Sight Firearms Training in Nevada, or something comparable, maybe even some police firearms training and shooting simulators would be helpful.
Other than suspending disbelief over that issue, however, her books are entertaining, and I look forward to the next in the series.

Love the series...except Gregor's accent.
Revisado: 06-08-15
Where does Destined for an Early Grave rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Impossible question to answer...
What other book might you compare Destined for an Early Grave to and why?
Kim Harrison's series of witches and demons.
Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?
Bones and Vlad... Gregor's french accent was horrible!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
the series would probably make an entertaining movie, but I'm no good at taglines.
Any additional comments?
Spoiler Alert.... I'm really happy that Gregor is dead... the cheesy French accent was impossible to listen to.

Horrible narrator
Revisado: 07-16-11
I'm having a difficult time getting through this book, and it's not because of the story. The narrator's screeching voice characterizations send me jumping to turn down the audio, and her mispronunciations of the characters and main subjects are extremely distracting and annoying. I've had to replay sections over and over again in order to understand who is talking to whom. Please get rid of Gigi... I'd rather listen to fingernails going down a chalkboard.
