Historia
For some it’s an opportunity. For others it’s a moment to question their faith: In God, in science, in everything. Still others try to keep the world running in the face of absurdity and uncertainty. And then there are the billions looking to the sky and wondering how a thing that was always just there is now... something absolutely impossible.

Ever wonder what it would be like if Moonfall and World War Z had a baby and dipped it in fondue?
Revisado: 04-06-25
I never wondered this, but I’m so glad I listened to it. The short story style perspectives of the world dealing with a new catastrophe brought me warm memories of when I read world war z. I really enjoyed the style and it worked great with the subject matter.
My wife asked me how I enjoyed it and I told her it was weird. Weird for a Scalzi book, and that is really saying something. I can’t wait to start this book over again so I can catch the little things I missed on my first time through.
I laughed along with the absurdity just to then be forced to reflect on how the world reacted and looked back at the events 1, 10, and 50 years in the future. Damn you for the reality gut punch that comes from all good sci-fi!

This book is great. I had a blast listening to it and can’t wait for my 10 year old son to read or listen to it once he gets home from school today.
In true Drew fashion it takes place in an interesting world that I am now dying to learn more about.

Historia
Following the guidance of a mysterious blue prompt, Sylas journeys to the town of Ember Hollow to breathe new life into a quaint local pub. Along the way, he meets a clever apothecary named Mira, who helps him acclimate to the ins and outs of the realm, and Patches, a corpulent cat who’s slightly . . . shall we say, unusual. Dubbing the pub “The Old Lamplighter,” Sylas hopes it will be a safe haven for other weary souls. Of course, it doesn’t feel that safe when the prompt reappears with a warning: [You have 89 days until the invasion.]

Great story telling and made me crave a good craft beer
Revisado: 02-26-24
I was genuinely upset when this book ended. Don’t get me wrong, the story and ending were great, I was just so immersed in the story that being jarred back to reality suuuucked.
I usually am just emotionally invested in one or two characters in a book, so it was a surprise to want to know more about everyone and crave back stories. I even found myself wondering about backgrounds of side characters that had little to do with the overall story. Wanting them to get their afterlives together and enjoy their time. You can continue growth in death!
I am pumped for the second book to come out in the fall of ‘24.

Twenty years later, Birdie is living her worst life in her hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, working at her father's Seed and Feed (and Bagels). Fun and witty start to a new series
Revisado: 04-27-23
I have loved every Alexander C Kane book so to date, so I came into this book with very high expectations. It still blew me away with how clever and funny the book was. Alexander has this amazing way of writing side characters that gets me so engaged that my mind wanders thinking about what their back stories must be, causing me to miss parts of the actual story and have to rewind a minute or so. I highly suggest getting this fun Urban Fantasy book, and I can’t wait for the next one!
However, my wife was annoyed by how much I was laughing out loud this morning while she was trying to work.

Historia
My name is Sasha Bowman, and I am a member of the Reactance. An awakening of a dormant gene has ripped my home and community apart, giving society yet another reason to hate and even kill each other. Some people are scared of us, and for good reason. I did not ask for this gene, nor did I give anyone permission to control it, but the government has put a DiaZem in charge to do just that. This murderess, Queen DiaZem, wiped out those in the city without the gene, including my father. Now, I must fight with the Reactance to stop the DiaZem’s apparent power and ensure these genes are returned to their dormant state.

I enjoyed the diary style telling of this story, and the origins of world building. The story was a little fast paced and vague, but that worked with the diary style from a teenagers point of view.
I am generally an audio only person, but am getting this series on kindle because I really want to see where this world takes me.

Whacky crime solving shenanigans
Revisado: 12-30-22
How did I miss this release by over a month? I have been dying for a sequel to the Authorities and this in no way disappoints. The whole cast is back with all of their quirky amazingness.
I love that Rutherford has slightly more accepted his job, and tries his best to play the part he was hired to do.
My one complaint is that Scott does not have coffee mugs for sale I want to drink from the same one I Rutherford has.

With my best friend going to college to learn how to use her magic, I'm job hunting in Atlanta. We're sharing an apartment, and I've never been happier. The last thing I needed was to be involved in a murder investigation. Now, the police are sure I had something to do with it. News alert: I don't. I've got a job, Jo's going school. I finally am on the track to have my own life. Working as an EMT is great, but something weird happened at work. Something I can't explain. What if I'm wrong, and I am a mage? But I can't get the dead girl out of my mind. Who was she, and why did she die?

Cori Catastrophe. They call me that sometimes, and I hate to admit it, but it isn’t wrong. Things go weird around me. Electronics die, things break, and if something odd happens, I seem to find it. Finding another dead body just made me late to work. Nothing will stop me from getting my degree, getting a job, and getting away from this tiny town - though leaving my best friend will hurt more than anything else. Reality seems determined to make reaching my goals impossible.

The pop song we all need
Revisado: 03-19-22
Scalzi never disappoints, and this book is no acceptation. The world has been a horrible place the last few years, but at least we haven’t had a Kaiju breech into our existence. At this point that wouldn’t surprise me at all. I highly recommend getting this book to help you leave behind our current existence and jump into a world with a few more problems, but is also as entertaining and funny as watching Mr Scalzi do his Kermit the frog impersonation in person.

This series never disappoints. Faced paced action with fun characters and witty banter.
I’m not one for spoilers, so I am going to vague the hell out of this. I loved the chess match scene, and hope there is more to come from it in the next book.
Time to listen to the book again and try and catch more of the Easter eggs always hidden in this series!
