A good old mystery. Can definitely hear echoes of this mystery in the next generation of writers (Sayers, Christie, etc). Enjoyed it.

Historia
Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate. I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

clever

Enjoyed the "third wall" breaks when the author talked to the reader. Gasped a couple of times at the plot twists.

Historia
In the winter of 1918, at the height of World War I, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kansas, moved east with American troops, then exploded, killing as many as 100 million people worldwide. It killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages, and 1918 marked the first collision between modern science and epidemic disease.

Too repetitive
Revisado: 12-16-23
I feel like this book could've been more concise. Good information and really drove home the horror and desperation. The reader was alright. I didn't listen to the last couple hours.

A reminder to act with mercy
Revisado: 11-07-22
Gaskell illustrates the possibilities of acting with only justice versus acting with justice and mercy. Also the transformative nature of repentance for good.

Historia
No One Would Listen is the exclusive story of the Harry Markopolos-lead investigation into Bernie Madoff and his $65 billion Ponzi scheme. While a lot has been written about Madoff's scam, few actually know how Markopolos and his team - affectionately called "the Fox Hounds" by Markopolos himself - uncovered what Madoff was doing years before this financial disaster reached its pinnacle. Unfortunately, no one listened, until the damage of the world's largest financial fraud ever was irreversible.

Thrilling topic, not thrilling writing
Revisado: 11-05-19
I was excited to learn more about the details of Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme and how he was caught. However, I stopped halfway through and did not finish. The author goes to nauseating lengths to explain why he was right, that no one listened to him, and that the SEC is incompetent. I sympathize with being misunderstood and ignored and working with the government. But I got it the point the first time Markopolos wrote it and didn't need to hear it again and again. I'm looking for another book to listen to about this fraud.

well done
Revisado: 08-07-19
I enjoyed the dramatization. Normally I'm a narrator only kind of listener, but I thought the voices and sound effects were mostly well done. I'm picky about too much audible breathing or grunting or yelling, so I gave the performance 4 stars.
