Historia
It's been seven years since the Seattle Strangler terrorized the city. His victims were all young, pretty, their lifeless bodies found wrapped in a home-sewn white dress. But there was one who miraculously escaped death, just before the Strangler disappeared. Lara Church has only hazy memories of her long-ago attack. What she does have is a home in Austin, a job, and a chance at a normal life at last. Then Texas Ranger James Beck arrives on her doorstep with shattering news: The Strangler is back....

It was alright
Revisado: 03-11-25
The book had a good pace. But the romance was a slow burn that could have either not been included or needed more presence. The ending also felt predictable.

Not a Neva Nevarre fan
Revisado: 03-07-22
I liked this book - I liked the premise. It was fast paced, without them jumping into bed right away. It just flowed really well.
The issue I had with this book was Neva Nevarre... she is so nasally that it got really hard to listen to her. There were also sentences that she ended super valley girl. I want to read the other books in the Billionaire series but I won't because Neva is the narrator. I'm glad I got the book on sale - otherwise I'd be upset to have spent a credit with this narrator.
Also there were some items with the architecture side of things that were not accurate. The paper warehouse would not be dealing with RFIs (request for information) that would be with the architect, and it wouldn't have people rushing around with a deadline. Usually there is plenty of time to deliver the information. I do applaud Annika for making the business more than architecture with being developers, otherwise it would be nearly impossible for Henry to be a billionaire. Architects don't make that much in the scheme of things. I'm a commercial interior designer which gives me insight to the building industry.

Needed an Epilogue
Revisado: 02-23-22
I really liked this book. I didn't have the same issues others did. I didn't think it was very political... just that at one point a politician is outskirts involved...
She could have stood up for herself a bit more, but when she did holy heck it was great! I found myself rewinding a few times to hear her tell him off again. I will say there needed to be more of Casp and Cara being sweet and cute though. Hence why we need an epilogue - I need to know where they are in a year from now!
But it was overall cute, and I don't regret listening.

Description is Misleading
Revisado: 02-23-22
This may be a spoiler but I think it needs to be said, if it had I wouldn't have gotten the book - Most of the book takes place on a deserted island. I don't find it sexy at all. They have toothpaste and soap, but all I could think was how much they must smell, and their clothes they have to wear over and over. None of that sounds sexy. At all. It really took away from the book for me. I mean what is mob about being stuck on an island?
I feel like I wasted 9hrs of my life.

Worth 14hrs of Time
Revisado: 02-11-22
It is worth the credit.
Loved the narrators. They both were really great performers. The cover isn't great. I think they should have gone with a different layout/models.
I really enjoyed the book. I was even wanting to listen to it instead of watching tv. The story was also well developed. I do wish there were more description of when they were together - on the walk for example.
Some of it was predictable. I knew what was coming but the resolution was great. Super sneaky. I will listen to it again for sure.
I did have to skip Chapter 51... I can't stand the older sister and it was all her being a real B. The narrator nailed her whiney voice.
Spoilers ahead -
I personally hate pregnancy stories. So I was thrilled that we skipped through that.... But didn't like that we then were going to be dealing with a kid (although he is adorable!)
Once a kid is involved it gets way less fun, cause kids are a lot of work. Just a bummer for me. It ruined some of the story for me. It changes the dynamics. And instead of the romance being the focus, the kid becomes the priority. She even says her baby's safety is the priority. It was great that the author didn't put the kid in danger - he wasn't kidnapped.
I wish she would be stronger with Ben when we walked back into her life. I especially didn't like her feeling bad for keeping her son away from him - especially when she did it for extremely valid reasons. I didn't like that as soon as she saw them together she fell apart regretting her decision to keep her kid safe. Especially when he treated her so callously, and when she saw what he did. I wanted more mama bear strength in that moment. Also she definitely should have told him to never call her Firefly again!
The author did a good job of making the transition to not being hateful toward each other good. I mean it came from trauma where she realized hey he had a point. And he also tried which was valuable.

Kelsey Phillips is over the dating scene. All that time and energy perfecting your profile and taking just the right picture and articulating exactly what you’re looking for, only to get the same sleazy propositions? No, thanks. She’s doing just fine on her own, so there’s no point in a fruitless hunt for “the one” that doesn’t exist. Besides, she already has the perfect man in her life. Theo is the type of friend who’s always there for a laugh, a hug, or a drink - and no propositions.

Super Cute
Revisado: 02-08-22
I really enjoyed this book! I thought it was cute and light. It is predictable but still really fun. It isn't a slow burn, which I don't enjoy so it was perfect for me. But it also didn't feel like it was too fast - especially because they've been friends for a while.
I loved Stephen and Felicity! They did a really good job. His deep voice was perfect, and it didn't feel like his female voice was forced.

Enjoyable Listen - except for the male
Revisado: 02-04-22
I take my dog to daycare so that beginning part was funny - its cause we love our dogs and want them to be busy when we are at work.
I liked the story - I didn't skip anything. I'm also happy with the cliches. I felt like their relationship was believable. It felt natural. Worth the credit.
Didn't love the female narrator at the beginning. I didn't like how each sentence ended in what seemed like a whine.
The male narrator could not do a good female voice to save his life. He sounded like Michael Jackson....
Might be better read over listening since the narrators weren't great.

More Meat Needed
Revisado: 02-04-22
The male narrator CAN NOT do a female voice. For any of them. I wish it hadn't been a duet book.
I felt like the author rushed... which is surprising since the book is rather long. But it felt like they kept jumping in time, and then we didn't actually get much of them as a couple. At Chapter 32 I didn't feel like there was much of them getting reacquainted. They talked about shared kisses through the week, well that is the stuff I want to read - them being cute, and having special moments. They jumped from a party to 2 weeks later. I want to see them be cute in those two weeks. It is supposed to be a romance. It got boring. Also too much Madison - Yes I get she is really important to the story - BUT - I don't need the friend development if it takes away from the lead couple's development! I mean they are together for 4 months before the drama starts - but there hasn't been relationship development that we can actually see/read/hear.
It ended rather abruptly after all the angst. I wanted an epilogue. Let's see where they are a year later. Let's see the romance blossom.

I just moved in with my billionaire best friend (and secret crush), Oliver Humphries. He’s the all-star. The jock. The golden boy. And I’m no match. I’m the nerdy, frizzy-haired, not-so-skinny friend. The moment I met him at 14, I was in L-O-V-E. I’m under no illusion I stand a chance. Living with him? Not a problem.

Took Too Long
Revisado: 01-20-22
I was really excited for this book - something fun and easy. Well I was highly disappointed...
It took 4 HOURS for the game of Truth to even hit.... um I didn't want to waste half the book wondering when the romance would start. I appreciate that it was a bit more realistic in that it takes time for things to develop - but do we always read/listen to these books to have that realism?
I also hated how Lanie acted after they finally got together! I thought she would be the one hoping for things to be different now. I just was so frustrated with her!
I speed through certain parts. I was over it to a certain point skipping a bunch of chapters just wanted to get to their HEA.
As for narration - I loved his voice for Oliver, but didn't like his Lanie voice. I also didn't like the female narrator voice for Oliver. But loved her character voice for Lanie - although sometimes she sounded stuffed up.
Overall not worth the listening time.

Read it, Don't listen.
Revisado: 12-27-21
I was so excited for this story. It sounded so good. But oh my goodness! The performance made me return the book, and buy the physical copy. So glad I did because the story is actually really sweet, even if predictable. A really sweet Christmas read.
The performer should not have been the author. She should have hired someone who is used to performing a book. The Author sounded whiney at the end of every single sentence. Her pacing was also too fast. She didn't let sentences breathe. Her voices weren't different enough.
If you are interested in this story, PLEASE BUY THE PHYSICAL BOOK!
