5/5 for all fields because I can use this book to preach anarcho-primitivism. Return to monke, my friends.

Historia
At a time when the United States debates how deeply to involve itself in Iraq and Syria, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Zacchea, USMC (Ret.), holds a unique vantage point on our still-ongoing war. Deployed to Iraq in March 2004, his team's mission was to build, train, and lead in combat the first Iraqi army battalion trained by the US military. Zacchea tells a deeply personal and powerful story while shedding light on the dangerous pitfalls of training foreign troops to fight murderous insurgents.

being ideologically consumed and denying reality likely will result in harm than good. this book is a very good lesson on why the previous statement has relevance to Western leaders.

Historia
This fundamental historical question and its complex answer speak penetratingly to the spiritual impulses, concerns, and beliefs that have played a seminal role in our world, even as they reveal the foundation of history’s most global religious movement, and fresh insights into the Western world's single most influential human being. Tackling all of these matters and more, Great Courses favorite Professor Ehrman returns with the unprecedented historical inquiry of How Jesus Became God.

I love this book.
It fuels my atheism. I understand Christianity to be:

The Rational Bible: Exodus

Historia
Why do so many people think the Bible, the most influential book in world history, is outdated? Why do our friends and neighbors - and sometimes we ourselves - dismiss the Bible as irrelevant, irrational, immoral, or all of these things? This explanation of the Book of Exodus, the second book of the Bible, will demonstrate that the Bible is not only powerfully relevant to today’s issues, but completely consistent with rational thought.

largely fallacious, but works to a good end
Revisado: 03-11-19
I dropped my skepticism and biases to listen to this book and saw the old text in a new light. The scholarly review applied by Dennis to each verse (and at times a scholarly review down to a single word) provided commentary that was able to answer deep, troubling philosophical questions left unanswered by parents and pastors. Had I known about this book just 8 years prior, I might've been "saved".
Anyway, the main idea is that if God exists and the Bible (and therefore the book of Exodus) is literally true (I think this detail is actually irrelevant) Dennis through the narrator will try his very best to convince you that God is fair and just.
However, another less-than-convinced person might say: "The Rational Bible"is an ill-suited title to what is actually going on here, the title ought to be "Rationalizing the Bible". There is some truth to this viewpoint, but whether you are more like the former or latter is dependent on whether or not you have faith that if such a god exists, then that god also wants what is good for humanity, or at least his followers.

Historia
Most people, including many policy makers, activists, scientists, and philosophers, have encouraged us to be more empathetic - to feel the pain and pleasure of others. Yale researcher and author Paul Bloom argues that this is a mistake. Far from leading us to improve the lives of others, empathy is a capricious and irrational emotion that appeals to our narrow prejudices. It muddles our judgment and often leads to cruelty. We are at our best when we are smart enough not to rely on it and draw upon a more distanced compassion.

Revisado: 03-11-19
This book is helpful to me.
I agree with some things and not others, but the general principle that using reason and skepticism to address all claims and beliefs is one I find agreeable. The alternative to reason-based ethics : biased, sexist, racist, subjective and arbitrarily self-determined empathy is evil disguised in a candy-coated shell.
If you want to understand the dissenting opinion regarding empathy, give this book a chance with an open mind. It presents sound arguments and truths that are not to our liking, due to our biases. Save all judgments until you've finished listening to the whole book.
