Historia
Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack - who has already killed Bod's family…

Historia
A storm. Rain-lashed city streets. A flash of lightning. A scruffy lad sees a girl leap desperately from a horse-drawn carriage in a vain attempt to escape her captors. Can the lad stand by and let her be caught again? Of course not, because he's...Dodger. Seventeen-year-old Dodger may be a street urchin, but he gleans a living from London's sewers, and he knows a jewel when he sees one. He's not about to let anything happen to the unknown girl - not even if her fate impacts the most powerful people in England.

This was just a lot of fun.
Revisado: 07-14-21
This honestly has been one of my favorite books to listen to by Terry and I LOVE his work. It just had a great humor and wit to it, and some really touching moments, too. That part where Onan waits to see if Dodger will let him in the bed reminds me so much of my dog... I teared up a bit. Check it out! For yer health.

Historia
In the chaos following World War II, the US government faced many difficult decisions, including what to do with the Third Reich's scientific minds. These were the brains behind the Nazis' once-indomitable war machine. So began Operation Paperclip, a decades-long, covert project to bring Hitler's scientists and their families to the United States. Many of these men were accused of war crimes, and others had stood trial at Nuremberg; one was convicted of mass murder and slavery.

Historia
In the late 1890s, Edmund Dene Morel, a young British shipping company agent, noticed something strange about the cargoes of his company's ships as they arrived from and departed for the Congo. Incoming ships were crammed with valuable ivory and rubber. Outbound ships carried little more than soldiers and firearms. Correctly concluding that only slave labor could account for these cargoes, Morel almost singlehandedly made this slave-labor regime the premier human rights story in the world.

Historia
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

I didn't think it would get to me, but it did.
Revisado: 08-29-20
I'm struggling to fully understand how I feel about this one. On the one hand, it's a really good love story about loss, understanding and faith (not the religious kind). On the other, it might be one of the saddest things I have ever heard. I'll have to think about it more. In the meantime, you all should check it out, for your health.

Once again, David Sedaris brings together a collection of essays so uproariously funny and profoundly moving that his legions of fans will fall for him all over again. He tests the limits of love when Hugh lances a boil from his backside, and pushes the boundaries of laziness when, finding the water shut off in his house in Normandy, he looks to the water in a vase of fresh cut flowers to fill the coffee machine.

It's goooood!
Revisado: 08-22-20
I'll be honest, I don't remember why this was in my list of books to listen to, but I'm glad it ended up there. Once I figured out what I was listening to, and I started to understand that this was SUPPOSED to be funny, I got into it. His stories sound like an episode of Seinfeld; the one where he comes out for the first time to the couple was great. It's a dry humor, but quite satisfying and has peaked my interest for this author and shall be getting some more of his work soon.

Historia
"Death is a dignitary who when he comes announced is to be received with formal manifestations of respect, even by those most familiar with him." This line was written by Ambrose Bierce in his short story An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge. Death by execution has historically been ritualized, perhaps to absolve those accomplishing the execution from guilt or blame.

This has stuck with me since highschool.
Revisado: 08-06-20
First off, the narrator did a great job. It kinda sounded like Death, himself, was narrating. His voice is deep, but not real deep, smooth but also has just a hint of rasp(?). Very good job.
Secondly, this story has stuck with me since I originally read it in highschool (that's about 15 years now).(A bit of a SPOILER! warning) I'm sure (although, not really) that Boardwalk Empire took this story as inspiration when it came to the end of Richard Harrow's story. That ending got me again, man. I only wish it were longer.

Historia
The construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well, time. For if the perfect clock starts ticking, Time, as we know it, will stop. And then the trouble will really begin. Subtle, sly, thought-provoking, and hilarious, Thief of Time is Terry Pratchett at his best. "This delightful production keeps the listener spellbound," says AudioFile.

It really puts the whole story into perspective.
Revisado: 11-27-16
The story is really good and the narrator does a great job. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it kind of ruins my childhood. It is able to portray Cpt. Hook in a relatable and understanding light, and Peter Pan very much less so. Listen to this and I doubt you'll be able to look at either character the same way. Great job!
