The story is easy and predictable. Easy listen
Revisado: 04-29-25
If you need an easy listen, this is a good one. You won’t be stressed. The reading is a little cheesy with the occasional breathy reading and exaggerated accents.

Not really my style.
Revisado: 04-19-25
I don’t love the book greetings that are productions. And the storyline was a little silly. Way too many characters and things that were too predictable. I didn’t make it very far.

Historia
Everyone thinks my husband is dead. Just like we planned. Eleven years ago, my husband disappeared. Eleven long hard years I waited, my heart breaking for our son, who didn’t know his father was coming back. Today, my hands shake as I try to understand what I’ve just learned: my husband has a new wife. This wasn’t part of our plan. Eleven years ago, my husband made a terrible mistake. I sacrificed everything to help him fix it. But now he’s put our son and me in danger again. We had a plan. He broke the rules. But who will pay the price?

So hard to keep track of the characters
Revisado: 01-26-25
This is going to be the first book that I’m going to say this, I would’ve preferred it and print. I got to the end of the audible and I still was confused. If I had the book in hand, I possibly could have gone back and figured out characters and how they connected. I probably would’ve really liked it. A but of vocal variety would have helped differentiate the characters. Again, probably an excellent story in print.

This was informative and interesting and heart breaking
Revisado: 01-13-25
I liked that they are informing people about the stigma of mental health and how little rights people had. I did not love that. The blame seemed to be -solely-put on the facility and not on the families who abandoned their family members. How haunting that a husband could commit a wife or child with ZERO proof or testing of their “sanity” and NOBODY else was allowed to give them the opportunity for release. Has much changed? Different problems (NO affordable mental health care!) but still our people who struggle have no good plan for help.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Read this! If I had read the back or the summary I would not have chosen this book.
Revisado: 01-09-25
I am so glad that I saw so many recommendations for this book that I blindly added it to my library. Very glad I did. Wonderfully delightful story. After the first few sentences, I almost hung it up and asked for a refund! But I was stuck on a road trip and continued to listen, and I fell in love with this book.

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Can I give this a 10 out of 5?
Revisado: 11-15-24
The language, the words, the storyline….
This reads like the most beautiful autobiography of a family across generations. How is this a work of the imagination? Dr. Verghese has now written BOTH of my top two favorite books. This and Cutting For Stone. This is a beautifully woven tale. If you’re trying to decide whether to listen or read it, I would listen! You hear the way the Indian words are supposed to be said. There are lots of characters but they all have their place in this tale. This gives me some of the vibe of Molokai. Another top ten book of mine.

Historia
Ever since I met my handsome husband Dr Gabe Bonneville, I started playing the role of the perfect housewife. He works hard as a surgeon, so I look after our home, and throw elaborate dinner parties with champagne cocktails for his best friends Hugh and Anita. He’s my safe place and my chance to have the family I’ve always wanted. I’ve managed to hide the mornings when I wake up and see a face in the shadows. I haven’t told Gabe the truth about the woman who raised me, or told him about the therapy I’ve been getting so my secrets stay hidden in the dark.

I can’t get enough!!
Revisado: 10-07-24
Some people binge watch TV shows I’m binge listening to all of her books in this series. The narration is so well done. I enjoy each of the storylines. Every single book makes me wonder if detectives really have this many big cases. It also makes me see policing/detecting in a different way than it is here in the US. It’s unfathomable that our every-day police could walk around being unarmed and have to wait for a requested armed officer. It makes sense and yet we could never go backwards to that system. Anyway, fantastic series.

Revisado: 09-09-24
I was actually in suspense during this reading. At all times, I thought I knew what was happening and I didn’t. It weaves a great tale. And it’s not too glory or overly sexual. Just a good detective/suspense story.

It was the trial that stunned America, the verdict that shocked us all. On July 5, 2011, nearly three years after her initial arrest, Casey Anthony walked away, virtually scot-free, from one of the most sensational murder trials of all time. She'd been accused of killing her daughter, Caylee, but the trial only left behind more questions: Was she actually innocent? What really happened to Caylee? Was this what justice really looked like?

This happened here in my hometown. I think he doesn’t really nice job of showing what evidence they had and whatever evidence they did not have. And how a Jury had to make a decision with some major missing pieces. Nicely narrated

Historia
Barbara was 12 when she was admitted to the psychiatric hospital Aston Hall in 1971. From a troubled home, she'd hoped she would find sanctuary there. But during her stay, Barbara was systematically drugged and abused by its head physician, Dr Kenneth Milner. Somehow, eventually, she started to campaign for answers. This is a shocking account of how vulnerable children were preyed upon by the doctor entrusted with their care.

I can’t even fathom what went on that hasn’t been reported. These doctors are sick. And the nurses and techs who stood silent…maybe they felt powerless but they should have done something.
