Good honest and funny, touching

Sublime coming of age story. Intimate, vulnerable complex and heart rending. The authors wry sense of humor and humanity are on full force. Now I have to go down a rabbit hole on the music. Highly recommend.

I could not finish, repetitive, needs editing

The writing and use of descriptors and visuals were entertaining. Her what I call, ‘fair-apist’ whom she met with after drama class was amazingly vivid in my mind, kudos on that. I stopped listening about 7 hours in during the description of her stay at ‘the farm’, however I did skip ahead to see whether it got better and it did not. The constant repetition of how nobody cared about her and how everyone trying to help was so wrong (until she got to the farm) just became overwhelming. I kept wondering--what if no one ever stepped in? And so many people did. There were so many people who cared about Evanna’s well being. Her family and friends, the local bookstore, doctors, dietitians, teachers, nurses, therapists, and even JK Rowling befriended and supported her. I had an Eating Disorder as a young person, which started at about the same age as the author’s and thankfully through education (I have a masters degree in dietetics and nutrition) and therapy and years in the profession of helping people with eating disorders, I have recovered. I am proof that a person can fully recover from a serious ED. In my practice, I have helped administer tube feedings which are frightening to think about, but at times necessary to save a person's life. The number of times that she states that ‘she was nothing without her disorder’ and how it ‘kept her going’ and it was in essence who she was, was just over the top. I imagine that those listening who picked up this book without any experience with the severity of this mental disorder, could be sucked in by the glamor of her convictions, she is so dedicated to this way of life, above all else. I think of lonely young people, especially girls, who were like me, like Evanna as a girl, obsessed with celebrity personalities and lifestyle, and they make that their intense focus, a few days fast or the latest celebrity diet is indeed a slippery slope. What partially drew me in to the book was her character in HP, and this is not a book for an 11 year old HP fan. As evidenced by this memoir, it may take years and even decades for a person with an ED to get to a place where food is not the enemy and a where a delicious meal with loved ones can truly be the pleasure that it is. I genuinely hope that it is sooner than later for Ms. Lynch, as she has so much talent, so much to give.

Jesus Wept! This had me laugh crying

I’ll be listening to this again, what an enjoyable and entertaining story. Comic timing and story telling are her gifts, well humor too obviously. So gracious and real, the chapter Roid Rage had me crying, so hah lar ee us! Leslie and I went to Colorado State at the same time, so same era, and her generational references really hit home. She is raw and beautifully vulnerable, so brave! I love the transparency and honesty, yes there are many mistakes, we are all flawed. But she is self-actualizing and I want to be just like her. I have so much respect for this person, bravo LessDogg! Highly recommend.

Not just entertaining

though it very much is an enjoyable time travel fantasy/ mystery. It is very educational in that it sheds light on early 19th century systemic racism at it’s worst. and the sad fact that not that much has changed in the last 100 years. If you are only looking to be entertained, this series is not for you as there are some ugly hard truths about systemic racism which some readers who are in denial of this fact may find very uncomfortable. Very well done!

Incredible sound production and acting all around, this is a super absorbing tale. Creative and entertaining as well as educational. A clever way to teach anti racism using real world situations and modern dialogue.

I listened to this whole podcast as I did household chores and errands today. I could not stop, had to know who done it, such a create and clever truth telling of history. Highly recommend.

in my review of episode 4, there is no such thing as ‘too woke.’ IMO there will never be enough social, racial and gender justice in this world. More and more woke, please.
