wanted to read it, didn't have time

one of those things you mean to do, but somehow never get around to.. listening to this audio book checked many boxes. Voice of narrator brought warmth and joy to the words, as the holy father most likely intended

Historia
In this revelatory book, Stephen Martin and Joseph Marks explain how in our uncertain and ambiguous world, the messenger is the message. We frequently fail to separate the idea being communicated from the person conveying it, they argue: the status or connectedness of the messenger become more important than the message itself.

interesting topic but hidden agenda

Don't waste your money on this book. The author lures you in with a potentially interesting topic but then delivers a biased account of the world. Highly disappointing.

Historia
San Francisco's Laguna Honda Hospital is the last almshouse in the country, a descendant of the Hôtel-Dieu (God's hotel) that cared for the sick in the Middle Ages. Ballet dancers and rock musicians, professors and thieves - "anyone who had fallen, or, often, leapt, onto hard times" and needed extended medical care - ended up here. So did Victoria Sweet, who came for two months and stayed for 20 years. Laguna Honda, lower-tech but human-paced, gave Sweet the opportunity to practice a kind of attentive medicine that has almost vanished.

interesting insights into holistic medicine
Revisado: 10-20-19
So appreciative of the opportunity to glimpse inside an exceptional hospital from a doctor's view, not only in the business sense, but with the perspective of community and compassion.

Historia
From his bid to become Eudora Welty's lawn boy to the time George Plimpton offered to punch him in the nose, lineage has always been important to Rick Bass. Now at a turning point - in his midfifties, with his long marriage dissolved and his grown daughters out of the house - Bass strikes out on a journey of thanksgiving. His aim: to make a memorable meal for each of his mentors, to express his gratitude for the way they have shaped not only his writing but his life.

suck kindness and presence

Everything I love in one story--good food, family, nature, books, friends and travel. The only thing better than reading Rick Bass is listening to him.
