Charming Story
Revisado: 06-11-23
Some of Eloisa James stories have more humor than others, this is one of them. I am surprised that some other reviewers complained about the children, I thought they added to the story. They are not the “typical” well-behaved kids, but I enjoy kids who are original and able to be themselves much better. I also liked how this story contained characters from prior stories & seemed to develop their characters in a believable way.

Amelia Willoughby has been engaged to the Duke of Wyndham for as long as she can remember. Literally. A mere six months old when the contracts were signed, she has spent the rest of her life waiting. And waiting. And waiting . . . for Thomas Cavendish, the oh-so-lofty duke, to finally get around to marrying her. But as she watches him from afar, she has a sneaking suspicion that he never thinks about her at all . . .

Disappointing
Revisado: 04-22-23
I have really liked the Julia Quinn books I have so far read. I appreciate the humor and development of side characters. Those elements were missing in this story. I thought maybe it was one of her earliest novels because it seemed so lackluster but it was written in ‘21.
I was also surprised by the way Rosalyn Landor voiced the main character. It was annoying, grating, and irritating. I normally like how she narrates books.
I did not read the 1st book since so many reviews said the two books contained a lot of repetitive elements. I chose the wrong book or maybe both are not very good. At least the first book would not have as much of the Amelia’s voice in it, which would be a plus. Also, the hero of the 1st book seemed more fun and interesting. Not bad enough to request a refund but I would recommend not wasting a credit on this one.

Annoying Heroine & Narrator
Revisado: 12-21-20
The heroine was petulant and spoiled. The narrator was mostly alright the heroine’s voice was shrill. It’s hard to tell how much was the story and how much was the narrator’s emphasis but there were many times/situations that were melodramatic. Maybe it would be better in print so as to avoid the constant grating voice. Near the end, the author comes up with a flimsy excuse for why a certain man rapes women.

Disappointed
Revisado: 10-18-20
I almost stopped listening about a quarter into the book. Although it did get a little better by the time I finished the book, I regretted wasting the time. Definitely more of a YA book, although even still not a good one. The heroine was annoying and constantly crying. The character development was thin, making parts of the story unbelievable. Not worth a credit and I’ll be returning, which I rarely do.

Not interested in the heroine
Revisado: 09-28-20
I don’t like the heroine’s activities (gambling & high fashion) and so it was hard for me to relate and be interested. There are many other Heyer books I enjoy better. But a mediocre Georgette Heyer is still better than most books and there are quite a few fun parts.

Horrible Narrator
Revisado: 12-31-19
I tried to finish the book but with little more than an hour left, finally gave up. The narrator was extremely annoying, using a sickly sweet voice one might use when reading to a toddler. I inwardly cringed every time a character “laughed” because she would add a fake laugh after. I rated the story two stars, giving it the benefit of doubt that it might not be as simple and childish as the narrator made it seem. I enjoyed ‘The Captain’s Wallflower’ and kept hoping this book would become half as good as that one. Do not waste a credit on this book.

Sweet but predictable
Revisado: 03-30-19
This was a sweet, light story that included fun elements. The “dramatic” elements were predictable in coming and being solved. Definitely worth getting on sale, worth a credit if you are looking clean romance that focuses on basic Christian values without being too preachy.

Historia
Defense lawyer Andy Carpenter is reluctant to take on more cases. He’d rather spend his time working for his dog rescue organization. However, when a truck carrying more than 70 dogs from the South to the Northeast turns up with a murdered driver, Andy can’t help but get involved. Andy is eager to help the dogs, but it’s the man accused of murder who he has a problem defending. The accused happens to be his wife Laurie’s ex-fiance. Even though he acknowledges having argued with the victim, he swears that he is not a killer, and Andy has to admit he believes he's telling the truth.

Good, not great, but worth reading
Revisado: 08-06-18
I always look forward to a new Andy Carpenter book. While this one was not as good as past books (not as much interaction with friends/coworkers, the “bad guys” not well developed and the end/resolution rushed), it was still well worth the credit. I love the humor and ongoing characters, just wish it was more developed.

Another Great Story
Revisado: 08-06-18
I had read several reviews saying this novel was too complicated and hard to follow. Since I have always loved Silva’s books, I decided to give it a try anyway and I’m glad that I did. It was complicated but that is one of the things I love about Silva’s books. Some books I listen to when I know I will be frequently interrupted (running errands, etc.) because it doesn’t matter if I miss details, the storyline is pretty predictable. But with Silva’s books, I want to make sure I can focus throughout the whole book. His books are great for commutes/long drives and “mindless” chores like dishes, folding clothes, etc. (The only problem is that I get caught up in the story and “take a little break” to listen to a “good part” that easily turns into 30-45 mins.)
George Guidall does another wonderful job narrating!

Don’t Give Up on It
Revisado: 04-14-18
I almost gave up on this book, near the beginning, because I disliked how the male lead was treating Hero. In fact, I stopped reading it and read other books. Fortunately for me, I had a long drive and nothing else to listen to at the time, so continued listening. Turned out to be another great Georgette Heyer book full of delightful characters and funny dialogue. Definitely one that I will listen to again. The narrator was great, also!
