Historia
Every novella by Ursula K. Le Guin, an icon in American literature, collected for the first time - and introduced by the legendary author - in one breathtaking volume. Ursula K. Le Guin has won multiple prizes and accolades, from the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters to the Newbery Honor, Nebula, Hugo, World Fantasy, and PEN/Malamud awards. She has had her work collected over the years but never as a complete retrospective of her longer works.

Historia
In 1558 the ancient stones of Kingsbridge Cathedral look down on a city torn apart by religious conflict. As power in England shifts precariously between Catholics and Protestants, high principles clash bloodily with friendship, loyalty, and love. Ned Willard wants nothing more than to marry Margery Fitzgerald. But when the lovers find themselves on opposing sides of the religious divide sweeping across the country, Ned goes to work for Princess Elizabeth. When she becomes queen, all Europe turns against England.

Magnificent character development!
Revisado: 03-20-24
Whereas in the “World without end “, surnames, and craft guilds became standardized, amidst the backdrop of the bubonic plague, “A column of fire” ushered in early modern Europe through means of the ongoing slaughters of the Protestant Reformation. Follett’s mastery brings to vivid life, the multi dimensional horrors of this period.

Historia
It is 997 CE, the end of the Dark Ages. England is facing attacks from the Welsh in the west and the Vikings in the east. Those in power bend justice according to their will, regardless of ordinary people and often in conflict with the king. Without a clear rule of law, chaos reigns. In these turbulent times, three characters find their lives intertwined.

Magnificent character development!
Revisado: 01-08-24
Ken Follett epitomizes the noted Welsh literary traditions of fiery passion and of brilliant story telling. I wept for joy when Ragnar was reunited with her Elan, when Dreng’s Ferry became Kingsbridge, the title of Follett’s series, when Edgar became ennobled and when he and Ragnar were wed, at last, after what seems to have been many lifetimes of agonizing, tortuous early medieval obfuscations.
How gratifying that the evil Winston got his just rewards, passing his final days among indigents, many of whom, infectious lepers.
I can hardly wait to continue relishing the other books in this series; thank you, Ken Follett, for your magnificent work!!!

The Spinning Jenny was invented in 1770, and with that, a new era of manufacturing and industry changed lives everywhere within a generation. A world filled with unrest wrestles for control over this new world order: A mother’s husband is killed in a work accident due to negligence; a young woman fights to fund her school for impoverished children; a well-intentioned young man unexpectedly inherits a failing business; one man ruthlessly protects his wealth no matter the cost, all the while war cries are heard from France.

Stunning character development!
Revisado: 12-25-23
I, very much, enjoyed the author’s wondrous creativity. The assiduous details of day to day life, surrounding key points in early nineteenth century Britain, made me feel as though I were watching these events unfold!

Historia
"I know that many of you here have waited years for this Hour," Mater Motley said, using that voice that, though it was barely conversational in volume, was somehow heard everywhere. "The waiting is over. Tomorrow there will be no dawn. Only midnight, absolute and eternal." And so begins a new chapter in the epic story of 16-year-old Candy Quackenbush and her journeys through the world of the Abarat, where every hour is an island in one eternal day, and nothing is as it seems.

Historia
Perhaps the most influential science book ever written, On the Origin of Species has continued to fascinate for more than a century after its initial publication. Its controversial theory that populations evolve and adapt through a process known as natural selection led to heated scientific, philosophical, and religious debate, revolutionizing every discipline in its wake. With its clear, concise, and surprisingly enjoyable prose, On the Origin of Species is both captivating and edifying.

Historia
The story of the world's largest, longest, and best-financed scientific expedition of all time, triumphantly successful, gruesomely tragic, and never before fully told. The immense 18th-century scientific journey, variously known as the Second Kamchatka Expedition or the Great Northern Expedition, from St. Petersburg across Siberia to the coast of North America, involved over 3,000 people and cost Peter the Great over one-sixth of his empire's annual revenue.

An excellent read
Revisado: 12-24-22
Although, as a long time fan of “heroic age” explorations , I had originally purchased this title on the promise of “gruesome suffering”, the previously untold story of heroism, of Bering, moreover of the redemption of naturalist, Steller, who had shed both entitlement and privilege to evolve into a highly compassionate physician, and minister, is, alone, worth the “price of admission “.

Revisado: 05-23-15
Jean M. Auel is a brilliant scholar as well as a master craftsman writer. Her assiduous reseaech, which included not only travel and intensive study, but also experience based survival techniques, made possible her characters, to navigate their ancient landscapes. Although I have listened to each of the six books in Auel's Earth Children series innumerable times, I invariably glean new insights as well as abundant joy through each "read".
