Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Good story obscured by reader
Revisado: 01-28-25
This is the first time I haven’t liked a reader for this series. This reader seemed unsuited for this writer. The reader’s accent is charming, but his cadence and timing often made the story difficult to understand. This author uses humorous asides which got lost in the reading, and the reader didn’t clearly define characters so sometimes it was hard to tell who was speaking. Like most of the reading world, I love the Three Pines series, I have listened to all of them on audible. I hope this reader will be replaced for the next book; I don’t think I can do this again.

No Feel for San Francisco
Revisado: 07-29-17
This is an adequate mystery with stock characters and no sense of place. Aside from some street names and a couple of inaccurate landmark references, this story might have been set in any 19th Century American city with a Chinese population. There is barely a hint of San Francisco in this novel which is disappointing since it's billed as a story of old San Francisco.
