Overall, I enjoyed the experience of listening to the book as I drove, walked, and did household chores. This was a good first novel and had some fun twists and turns. It could have been a bit shorter, but I am buying the second book too. Ms Briggs write a great feisty and resourceful heroine.

Excellent part 2 of the trilogy

I am in love with Ann Leckie's writing and the wonderfull performance of these books. The combination makes for an entertaining listen.

This second book fills in a lot of details only hinted at in the first. The universe of the Radche resembles but did not duplicate the Roman Empire but in outer space and with a story tuned for modern audiences - but in a good way that any fair minded person can enjoy.

Leckie's stories are well paced and filled me with wonder, excitement, and surprise as well as recognition of the plot having correspondence with real historical situations and other sci go story lines.


I have finished all the books and am now saddened that the saga had come to an end.

Fun, exciting, weird, and wonderful

Yes this book is set in a woke universe, but that is just a cultural backdrop that doesn't take up much room in the story which is wonderfully written and is paced very well.

I felt like i was surfing on the crest of a wave of discovery, strangeness, excitement, and surprise.

Thank you Anne Leckie for such a good listen! And the performer did an outstanding job with the many accents - so many accents that every character send to have their own.

I am sad to see this excellent story end

I have greatly enjoyed this marvelously weird, surprising and exciting world that the author and performer have created. I will sincerely miss having the performer's voice in my ears as i drive and exercise. This work reminds me of Martha Wells' The Murderbot Diaries. But Ann Leckie he's taken it up to a whole new level.

Excellent story and performance

I found the whole thing delightful. The performance was fairly good. Better work on the women's dialogue would have been preferred but the overall performance was very good. The story in the book was better than the TV show. I think l the extra time available to explain things carefully made a big difference for personally.

Nice continuation of the story

This episode is entertaining enough and moves the plot along. Dexter's performance is improving.

Good story, OK performance

This book was is short, exciting, a little funny, and takes the Odysseus universe in a different direction. The narrator is new to the series and started off a little rough but got better as the work progressed.

Excellent performance of a fun and humorous story

A good next step in the saga, more peeling of the story's onion. I am looking forward to the next book in the sequence. I'm going to miss the time I have spent with DeVries' voice in my head when the saga comes to an end.

Great performance, OK story

DeVries is doing a great job with the story performance. This tale is interesting and enjoyable but a little thinner than the last two excellent books. I do look forward to the next episode though.
