Four months ago, Cassandra Harwood was the first woman magician in Angland, and she was betrothed to the brilliant, intense love of her life. Now Cassandra is trapped in a snowbound house party deep in the elven dales, surrounded by bickering gentleman magicians, manipulative lady politicians, her own interfering family members, and, worst of all, her infuriatingly stubborn ex-fiance, who refuses to understand that she's given him up for his own good.

Interesting read
Revisado: 01-20-22
Overall, I enjoyed the story. Kept me listening and had me rooting for the romance to win. It did feel a little drawn out and repetitive (with phrasing) at times, and I had hoped for some elven romance twist, but in the end it was still a cute book. Would I read it again? Not right away, but maybe in the future. But I am glad I read it once, so would recommend to those who like a cleaner cute romance with a HEA.

Disappointed
Revisado: 12-09-21
I wanted to like this book, but honestly I found it to be painstakingly boring. It takes like five or six chapters for her initial two encounters with the male MC. It was so drawn out. And 98% of the book was the male MC saying “I’m sorry”. It became grating and made me want to stop reading several times. I was mostly listening for background noise, which was good since the book did nothing to make me want to get invested.
I think this could have been a really cool story but it was all very predictable. And even the challenge to become the chosen princess was lackluster. There was never any real tension or action in my opinion.
I skipped several chapters just to get to the end and finish it. I don’t feel I missed anything by doing that. If you like very slow paced storylines with no romantic tensions of any kind (even with the buildup to a kiss) then you will enjoy this. But if you like a bit more tension or heat in your romance this isn’t for you.

Revisado: 11-13-21
Honestly, I ended up really enjoying this book. It took me a bit to get into the story, and the female MC grated my nerves a little at times with all her talking. I couldn’t tell if that was because of how it was written or the way the narrator read. But after a while I got used to it and I started to enjoy the story. The author does a good job of having romantic tension without making it to explicit, and I liked that the she made Laura independent and stand up for herself.

A good read!
Revisado: 11-11-21
This was a recommended read so I was on the fence but I’m glad I read it!
My pros: The storyline was very intriguing and I enjoyed the element of mystery that ran throughout the series. The first book especially had me feeling like this was a cool crime time fantasy and I was digging it! I also appreciated that none of the books felt like cliffhangers. They had solid endings that left you wanting more but didn’t make you feel cut off. I also loved her version of the fae world and the characters she had there. She did a fantastic job of weaving fantasy, mystery, and intrigue all together!
My cons: The MCs love story kind of just happened. I remember when she proclaimed her love I was like “ummm okay then.” LOL. I mean they meet and see each other from time to time and had one date but I don’t know if that qualified the MC to say “I’m in love!” It was a little jarring but I got over it.
Also, I felt like the MC should have been a character in her early 20’s. It made no sense for her to be a teenage HS senior especially with all the traveling, lack of school, and sex she was having. The narrator also read like an adult so every time the MCs age was mentioned it threw me off. It was a small annoyance that pulled me out of the story at times but nothing major.
On a nitpicking note: One thing that did really bug me to the point of not liking the MC was in the third book when her friend comes to visit. Her friend is clearly trying to tell her she is dealing with bullying and the MC just totally brushes off her friend like it’s no big deal / get over it, even though the whole series has been nothing but people checking in on the MC and her remarking on how great it is they are there for her. It really changed my view of the MC and stuck with me, so I wish the author had changed that. But again, just a nitpicky rant LOL.
OVERALL: great read and great narration! I hope the author writes another book so we can see how they all end up down the line. Especially since *SPOILER ALERT* there is a possibility of Margaret still being out there or returning (since we learned she also consumed a few Wise.)

It was okay, wished for more
Revisado: 10-30-21
The story idea is very cool!
But the writing itself is drawn out without a lot of real character growth or anything happening that made me feel like the melodic trance of writing was broken. This made the story feel stagnant as opposed to dynamic even with all the terrible things, tests, and magic going on.
I never actually fell in love with the characters. The writing tells you about the world and the characters but doesn’t make you feel like you are part of it if that makes sense. So the whole time I felt like an outsider looking in.
When I finished reading the book it felt like a two minute story the author dragged out into over two hours, which left me kind of disappointed despite the happy ending.
Also **SPOILER ALERT** I really struggled when the MC Fae Lord made the deal with the queen of the madness court that she would never wage war on the place he called home, because he tells his own king this and then talks about how for years he is finally treated better because of this since the king realizes he’s made himself indispensable.
Then, in the NEXT SENTENCE he negates what he says by saying the king decides to make him the person who goes on all the deadliest and hardest tasks. Like, why would the king want to try and kill the person who is the only reason their court and people aren’t being destroyed?! I struggled to get over that. It made no freakin sense!
Having said all that, I gave the book three stars because, despite what it lacked, it was still interesting enough that I finished it. I also like that it had a H.E.A. (Happily ever after), and I liked the narrator for the female lead (though I did not enjoy her reading for the male fae lord).
Would I read again? Probably not. But I’m also not mad about taking the time to read it once so, hopefully that review helps!

This story had potential :(
Revisado: 10-13-21
I was so bummed because this story had so much potential! The beginning opened you up for what could have been a really cool storyline. Then, it just did a full 180.
The storyline became drawn out and boring, and then there was a random scene where the elf king makes eggs and bacon (which totally didn’t fit), and the MC spends the whole book trying to break this “curse”/magic and SPOILER ALERT: when she does it’s by herself. Like, the original elf king and original human queen had to work together to put the marriage/magic thing in place and yet the MC figures it out by herself in less than a chapter and it’s as simple as planting a flower?! :/
Again, this story had soooo much potential and I was so excited for it. I am very bummed out ;(

Wasn’t for me
Revisado: 10-13-21
The narrator is partly why I really did not like this book. She tried too hard with the male voices and it was comical but not in a good way. She also sounded robotic and the Italian words (when needed) felt forced. Almost like when you try to make Siri pronounce foreign words.
The story itself was not that great. I found myself missing parts and not bothering to go back to listen to them. I think the conflict she tried to create between the two main characters just didn’t seem realistic to me. Also, she wrote the elves to have sharp teeth and claws and for whatever reason I couldn’t get over that.
Not my favorite, but that could just be me.

Great addition to a great series
Revisado: 10-02-21
I love this series but I had to read this book more than once to care about Melantha. You end up being okay with her and her new troll hubby, but it took me time to want to hear her story when really I just wanted to focus on Farrendel and Essie.
I love the progression of Farrendels healing and that you finally get to a place where I think they finally consummate the marriage? But I was annoyed at how kind of hidden that was. Like I almost missed it and had to backtrack to realize what the author meant. I know it’s a clean romance series and I’m cool with that but Gosh darn it, you make me wait four books for the fire to build you could have given me a little more than one line that says “we were married and now we should start acting like it.” 😒
Pshh... even Mylantha got a better lead in for her night with her troll husband and I didn’t even like her as much! Just sayin.
Aside from that, I love the end and can’t wait for the next book. I love Edmund and can’t wait to see what happens with him next and if maybe a little Farrendel/Essie elf baby will get introduced! Fingers crossed!

Love this series
Revisado: 10-02-21
I have come to love this series as a whole. I like that the author made the families devoted, loving, and caring to one another as opposed to other marriage alliance books where it seems more cold and calculating.
My cons: it was odd to me that her family, though protective and loving, married her off and sent her to another country with no maid, guards, or any people or protection from her country. Especially since, once she is home, all they do is ask her if she’s okay. You learn that she can shoot, so I would think they would have at least sent her off to her new home with a gun or something lol. Anyways, that part just bugged me for whatever reason.
I love that Essie’s family is more receptive and welcoming. It was a nice contrast to the elves. At times though, it felt weird. Like it was such a quick switch with the MCs brothers suddenly declaring love and brothership with her new elf hubby after all this initial doubt. I mean I know she asks them to get over themselves and accept him but still. Yeah, it was awkward. Not enough that I didn’t like the story but enough that while I was reading some scenes I was like hmmm... before moving on.
My Pros: I like the MC Essie way more in this book! She feels more grounded and less perfect. I also love her brothers, Edmund cracks me up. There was more action in this book, and the stakes were higher. The lead in to the next book was great!
Still love the narrator! But I hate the nephews voices hahaha. Could have done without those but again, preference. The British elves are still my favorite!
Overall, Worth the time in reading! This has become a series I enjoy playing in the background while at work. :)
