Historia
Reporter Sam Kean reveals the periodic table as it’s never been seen before. Not only is it one of man's crowning scientific achievements, it's also a treasure trove of stories of passion, adventure, betrayal, and obsession. The infectious tales and astounding details in The Disappearing Spoon follow carbon, neon, silicon, and gold as they play out their parts in human history, finance, mythology, war, the arts, poison, and the lives of the (frequently) mad scientists who discovered them.

Clarice Starling, a young trainee at the FBI Academy, is surprised to be summoned by Jack Crawford, chief of the Bureau's Behavioral Science section. Her assignment: to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter—Hannibal the Cannibal—who is kept under close watch in the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

Fans Be Patient
Revisado: 03-13-24
As a die hard Cure fan, I was a bit disappointed by this book. I understand it was a monumental task to gather all the bits and pieces related to The Cure for this project. But what I do notice as well is that they apparently didn’t have anybody fact checking the facts. At times the narrator says the inspiration for “Killing an Arab” was the book “The Stranger” by Albert Camus, (true) but in other entries they say it was “The Outsider” (false). We can also hear one of the narrators consistently pronounce the name David Bowie as David “Bauwee”, Robert would be appalled by this as David Bowie is perhaps his biggest musical hero. There is a segment around the letter “R” where the narrator’s voice has a wierd echo that makes it hard to understand what he’s saying. It gradually gets worse until you can’t understand a thing he’s saying. Fortunately, this only goes on for about 5 mins. and then it stops. Another of the narrators keeps pronouncing the word “macho” as “makko”. Who is this man? Has he never heard that word before? He sounds like he’s 40 yrs old at the very least! At one point they say that Robert Smith appeared in the show “The Mighty Boosh” (he never was on that show). They later say that he was MENTIONED in the program which is true, but like I said he never APPEARED on the show. It’s little things like that which make me not want to trust a lot of the other facts they say here. They should’ve had real Cure fans listen to this audio to fact check it and for quality check. Anyway, I enjoyed hearing about a lot of the things I already knew with a nugget or two of new info here and there. If you’re not a hard core Cure fan you’ll thoroughly enjoy it, just take their facts with a grain of salt

Historia
As one of the few black students in his philosophy program at Columbia University years ago, Coleman Hughes wondered why his peers seemed more pessimistic about the state of American race relations than his own grandparents–who lived through segregation. The End of Race Politics is the culmination of his years-long search for an answer.

Coleman speaks the truth on race politics
Revisado: 02-07-24
Coleman is a formidable intelectual who sees beyond the color of a person’s skin. He speaks more truly along the lines of Martin Luther King than any of the so called antiracists of today. A voice for reason in these unreasonable times

Historia
From 1990 to 1995 Dr. Rick Strassman conducted U.S. Government-approved and funded clinical research at the University of New Mexico in which he injected 60 volunteers with DMT, one of the most powerful psychedelics known. His detailed account of those sessions is an extraordinarily riveting inquiry into the nature of the human mind and the therapeutic potential of psychedelics. DMT, a plant-derived chemical found in the psychedelic Amazon brew, ayahuasca, is also manufactured by the human brain. In Strassman's volunteers, it consistently produced near-death and mystical experiences.

I was hoping for more experiences
Revisado: 09-02-22
The author had to detail every aspect of his research; from the most mundane and boring things like what buttons he had to push to access the pharmacy within the hospital to the astounding testimonies of the volunteers. Much of the book is spent on the tediousness of acquiring the permits and approval of the FDA that I almost fell asleep. I’d say only about 30% of the book is the stories we want to hear and the rest is not very interesting. He wrote this book mainly as a way to cover his back in case anybody wanted to criticize his research. Every aspect of it is told in the book. I suppose if you yourself are a researcher you might find it useful
