I have generally low expectations when reality tv personalities come out with a book, but this one is so beautifully written.

It's disappointing that the more updated version is not available on Audible. This recording is of the book that came out in 2003. There's a more updated book (2013) on Amazon, but it's not this recording. While the principles are sound and apply to pretty much any decade or generation, the stories and circumstances are outdated. This book's content is about life BEFORE the Great Recession, and it's helpful to have that kind of context in today's world. And Ramsey refers often to MSAs (Medical Savings Accounts) in this edition. We're in a world where there are now FSAs and HSAs. I felt like I just picked up a loaf of stale bread for the same price as fresh bread. Now let's talk about Mr. Ramsey's delivery. I understand that this is his style on his radio program, and he's trying to hammer information into people to help change behavior, but must he really be so condescending? Must he talk to people like they're idiots? Most people make bad choices because they were given wrong advice or given no advice at all. I found the narration on the recording just absolutely grating and demoralizing--and I'm already in a good situation financially. I just chose the book because so many people recommended it, plus I wanted to convince my husband to pay off our house right now rather than later. So, I had to endure this horrible recording and berating just to get to that information. I give it such a low rating for those reasons. Too bad, really. If you can get past these things, there really is good, sound advice in there.

What a delight to listen to Tim Curry read this classic. A reviewer (or was it the description?) described Curry’s performance as dark, but that’s not at all how I felt when listening. Curry’s interpretation allowed me to have great empathy for Scrooge. The pace of reading was not too fast either. Perfectly performed.

What a terrific book! I was so sad when it ended. Not how it ended but that it ended. Neil Hayward has a wonderful gift of language and he delicately weaves his personal journey into the story of his Big Year. My husband wants to listen to this book now, but I'm afraid he might end up doing a Big Year as a result!

It's always a pleasure to hear Lauren Graham's voice. Cute story that has a unique perspective not generally found in novels.

Now that I've finished listening to this book, I'll miss Geraldine's storytelling, charm and overall self-deprecating wit. It made me look back on all my own travels to try to piece together what I learned about those close to me and myself. Highly recommend.

I've been wanting to read Laura Bush's autobiography since I read the novel, "American Wife," which was based quite a bit on Laura Bush's life. I wished I had downloaded this book a month earlier than when I did because my husband and I were on a road trip in West Texas. Ms. Bush has a wonderful way of writing and expressing the landscape and the realities of the land that she loves and that would have made our trip even better. Her love of West Texas comes out in her writing. That was my favorite part of the book--when she describes her home life, her upbringing, her family. When she gets into the political years it feels like it's a mix of detachment and wonderment (fascination of Who's Who as visitors arrive to the White House events), as she's thrust into a lifestyle that is so far removed with how she was raised and what is at the core of her, yet when she speaks passionately about the causes she championed, her writing picks up and you can tell it delights her. I imagine that when you have a life in the White House you do become a bit detached and there is not a lot to comment on--or that can be commented on without getting political, though I have to confess I rather enjoyed her voicing her frustration with some of the politics and those who you can tell she probably would never invite over for dinner. I was happy to finally get to the last chapters where she talked about post-White House life. Her syntax and beautiful descriptive writing returned back to what it was in the beginning and with that you can tell what really moves her--it's not what happened in the White House.

I too, didn't realize until much later in the book that this was abridged. OH NO! TOO BAD! I would have loved to have heard more. So, I bought the hard back for my mother for Mother's Day so I could page through and pick up parts I missed AND to see photos--I have to admit that's the part I wish Audible would do is provide a link to the photos that are in the book. That's my favorite part of biographies.

By the way, I totally recommend this book and have gushed about it to some of my friends.
