Historia
Juliet only wanted to see her childhood home one more time–to look at it from the street. She never intended to meet the new owners, let alone talk her way into a position as their new live-in nanny. But it's too late now to tell the truth about who she really is. Six-year-old Kitty has progressive mutism and cannot speak. Nobody knows why she keeps making silent phone calls to the police. Juliet makes it her mission to find out. As Juliet settles into the house, nostalgia for her childhood gives way to uneasiness, as troubling memories surface.

Historia
Rupert didn't especially want to be a prince. And he certainly never asked to be the second son of a royal line that really didn't need a spare. So he was sent out to slay a dragon and prove himself - a quest straight out of legend. But he also discovered the kinds of things legends tend to leave out, as well as the usual demons, goblins, the dreaded Night Witch - and even worse terrors hidden in the shadows of Darkwood. Rupert did find a fiery dragon - and a beautiful princess to rescue.

Excellent writing, never lost interest!

One of the best books I’ve read in a long time! High heroism, honor, bravery, resilience, determination in the face of hardship, delightful characters- in other words, it was epic.

Extraordinary writing

Beautifully written, though-provoking, coveted many historical events with which I was unfamiliar regarding early colonial American history.

Historia
Tired of the pace and noise of life near London and longing for a better place to raise their young children, Mary J. MacLeod and her husband, George, encountered their dream while vacationing on a remote island in the Scottish Hebrides. Enthralled by its windswept beauty, they soon were the proud and startled owners of a near-derelict croft house - a farmer’s stone cottage - on “a small acre” of land. Mary assumed duties as the island’s district nurse.

Unexpected Treasure
Revisado: 01-18-24
I really loved this book. The vocal talent was excellent. The stories told ran from hilarious to heartbreaking with every nuance of rural life on a Hebridean island shown in respectful and appropriate ways. The poverty and sometimes squalor along with the joy of community in a isolated place where people have to work together in order to survive - the joy the people take in their generations old traditions-the dedication of the medical professionals who care for them as best they can under very difficult circumstances make a beautiful and inspiring story.

Great little adventure with a twist of an ending. Fresh, funny, and very southern. Actually a good snapshot of the stresses and pleasures of life in the hospitality industry and the dangerous places women can land in when mindlessly following a man.

Suspenseful but sweet!
Revisado: 01-03-24
The narration was stiff and robotic, over articulated, which is a shame because it is really a great little story about loss, hope, friendship, and the strength found in community. Get a more natural sound going forward.

Poignant and true
Revisado: 12-30-23
I heard the voices of my people in this book. It’s a little jewel that reflects the hard realities of the late 40’s in the hills of Tennessee, tempered with hope and love but underscored with the granite of ignorance, superstition, and narrow-mindedness. My parents grew up in similar circumstances and the commonality between the stories they told about growing up poor in the south are very similar to the things that happen in this book.

Heartbreaking but riveting….
Revisado: 10-22-23
I don’t understand why people are saying the writing and characterization are bad. They are excellent. What Is bad is the mechanical quality of the narrator’s voice, along with poor phrasing. The story itself is a riveting tale of mental illness, human suffering, and brief flashes of intense joy and hope for the resilient Lilly. And the awful reality that things like this did and still do happen to children. I suspect the tale may be at least partly factual. I look forward to more from this author.
