Disappointing
Revisado: 04-21-25
After how much the author hyped this up with cover reveals etc…; I expected far better from this than novel. Stop preaching and just tell a good story. This was predictable and frankly ridiculous. Hardly a mystery but impossible to comment further without spoilers so I’ll just say I feel the author seems to be sorely underestimating his faithful readers.

Loved this - a masterful author
Revisado: 02-11-25
Could not stop listening; pulled an all nighter because I HAD to know what happened next.
The story was very well done with twists and sprinkles of humor that I expect from JD Kirk.
From the start you feel a sense of foreboding that makes you uneasy and then it just builds into a relentless need to listen further because WTAF is happening here!
David Tennant ♥️ - just spectacular.
Louise Brealey 🌹- fantastic portrayal.

Started out fine and then it went south quickly
Revisado: 08-28-24
The novel sets a scene of intrigue in the first few chapters. Plenty of laughter but then it shifts into a poorly plotted mess of ridiculously overblown characters and convoluted triple agent nincompoopery. The reader finally is hit with - there isn’t actually a plot. I harken back to my 3rd grader relating a story from school that tangents wildly with no conclusions in sight and ends because she gets distracted; exiting abruptly. Same feeling as reading this book. Will Wheaton was so stiff when narrating certain characters that it was hard to continue.

Historia
Here are the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths, stylishly retold by Stephen Fry. The legendary writer, actor, and comedian breathes life into ancient tales, from Pandora's box to Prometheus's fire, and transforms the adventures of Zeus and the Olympians into emotionally resonant and deeply funny stories, without losing any of their original wonder. Learned notes from the author offer rich cultural context. This volume is a doorway into a captivating world.

Entertaining, educational, humorous- Delightful! I believe this man could make an instruction manual fun by re-writing it and then narrating the finished product. Stephen Frye is such a gem.

Not worth finishing
Revisado: 11-27-23
This book was just ridiculously long; the plot was simplistic and predictable. I kept reading because I paid for this piece of misogynistic crap. Oh sure, strong female characters are alluded to here in these pages but the stereotypes of old are abundant. The main character is basically a self-centered over-confident jerk who bullies everyone around her under the guise of being a strong female but in reality she’s a narcissistic bully. So very very disappointing.

It all started harmlessly enough. An egged window, a deflated car tire, and a few garden gnomes knocked over. But then, the silent calls began–late nights and early mornings to landlines and mobiles, and numbers that no one should have access to.

BRILLIANT 10 STARS
Revisado: 07-30-23
Jack and the gang, new members and some old (right then, ya wee c***splashes) are out to solve a murder with danger and suspects aplenty.
Well-paced and as always, great dialogue, characters and plot twists.
I laughed, I cried, I yelled out loud at times; had to hold my breath at the end and was channeling Hoonerisms at the author…
Angus King is outstanding with his narration taking you deep into the story.
Thank you JD Kirk for a wild ride.

Please spare us the sanctimonious rhetoric
Revisado: 02-28-22
This had such potential and sadly because the author has decided the lead detective must pontificate every step along the way or lecture the other detectives on the case…. Sooooooo boring. I literally thought “please just shut up and move along”.

After a few days of silence, the police were called to do a welfare check on them. When the police knocked on the girl's door, no one opened it, so they got a key from the building manager and opened the door themselves. As soon as they were inside, they called out for the girls, but they didn't call back. The police walked forward into the living room, and at first everything looked normal, but then they noticed something horrible on the couch...The audio from ...

JD KIRK is a master storyteller LOVE LOVE LOVE
Revisado: 01-27-22
First of all, I cannot say enough about how much I crave these DCI Logan and Robert Hoon Novels. JD Kirk weaves a mystery that has enough humor to keep you going from tense speculation to laughing out loud while the characters unravel the latest mystery. I’ve read every book so far and pre-order each new one with zero hesitation.
Second, Angus King could read the phone book, nursery rhymes, instruction manuals and I would pay to listen. He’s magical. The rolling r’s, the various Scottish accents that I had no idea existed; he’s just a gem.
