Informative but some room for improvement.
Revisado: 10-03-22
Having been born and raised in Jackson, Tennessee where Carl Perkins made his home and where the Rockabilly Museum is located, I have been a lifelong fan of Carl Perkins. With that in mind, I was left wanting more but to someone who isnt as familiar with Perkins, it would be pretty informative. My only real issue was what information the narrator chose to share vs leave out. One example, he left out that Carl was taught to play guitar by an older black sharecropper by the name of John Westbrook or "Uncle John", which would be information directly related to music, and instead adds a questionable story about how Carl's brothers viewed Elvis.

Full of Insight BUT needs a companion guide
Revisado: 01-29-21
Book worth the time and price! But be prepared with something to take notes on and your maps of the UK and Ireland. The author talks about different areas and regions of the UK and Ireland throughout the book and unless you are very familiar with England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland plus the little islands that surround them, have a map handy. As this was audiobook, I’m not sure what is available with print version but it would be a great idea to have a downloadable companion pdf for listeners with maybe maps, DNA terms, and names of those who the author discussed. I am from USA so listened I to learn more about all my ethnic backgrounds but not familiar with places or pronunciation/spelling to look up afterwards. I am 41% English, 24% Irish, 13 % Scottish, 9% Welsh, and 6% Swedish(which were from an island off the coast that was discussed in the book) so this book was tremendously insightful.

History writer “American History is the worst”
Revisado: 04-15-20
What I hoped was a book about badass women in history, the lesser known ones, ended up being very disappointing. Instead of being inspired, I felt...
Bc I’m American- I’m the worst! “She was born a slave in TN and was a slave till she was 30 BC AMERICAN HISTORY IS THE WORST”(2hr 5min)
Bc I’m white- I totally suck! “Since whites have been on the scene, there has never been a not sucking time...” (2hr 24min)
Bc I’m not LGTB- There is no way I could be a badass women! ( according to author whose stories were for the majority about LGTB women/men/trans)
I realize this is the authors book so she is more than welcome to voice her thoughts. I feel the description for the book should go into more detail instead of “controversial”. I don’t mind controversial. But I don’t like being mislead especially when it concerns a pricey book purchase. When I spend $25 for a book that’s about amazing women in history to give me some inspiration, I shouldnt stop reading bc I’m being made to feel belittled and rejected. #equalityforallwomenmyass
