Historia
In a country town, an arsonist is burning homes down. Their signature move is placing an identical model of the house on the front porch before setting the fire. But no one is there to witness this in the silence of each dark winter night. A happy couple is out celebrating their anniversary when they receive a chilling phone call—a recorded children's verse warning them their house is on fire and their children are gone. They race home to an inferno and missing children.

Another great Anni Taylor book
Revisado: 04-22-25
The story was complicated and interesting. The interactions between the detectives was somewhat annoying but also probably pretty realistic to what happens in real life.
It took me a while to get used to the voices since Grim and Lakeland were the same voice. And Franco’s voice was used with a couple of different characters.
But it was hard to put down and I’m looking forward to her next book.

Historia
On a midsummer's night, a stolen car packed with teenagers crashes at high speed on the southern edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. DI Jan Talantire arrives at the scene to find the victims of the crash. It appears to be a tragic accident until a worried mother turns up at the scene of the accident. Her daughter, Rhiannon, a friend of the joyriders, hasn't been seen since the previous night. The account dovetails with the statement of the householder who claimed to see a girl running near the crashed vehicle the moment he emerged.

I finished the book because I had paid for it. But it really wasn’t very interesting. More like just watching a police investigation without much of a story. His other books are more interesting.

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

What a delight to find this listen. I’m so picky about what I listen to that I was afraid it might be a disappointment. But I loved everything about it. So funny as it teaches life lessons learned going through hard times. I recommend it!

I’ve now decide that Liane Moriarty is my favorite author. She so consistently writes books that are touching, funny, poignant, and insightful. Love the multi-dimensionality of her characters. To eres always something to learn from her characters too. Really good book.

Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Narrator is disappointing and story too much the same.
Revisado: 11-06-24
I was so excited when Louise Penny’s latest book was published. But was disappointed in the narrator and the book. I kept listening to it just to get to the end. I think I could have liked it more with a different narrator. You can’t tell Inspector Gamache’s voice from other voices. It used to be so distinctive. I hate to write a review that doesn’t rave about a Louise Penny book but it wasn’t what I was hoping for and not up to her past books.

Loved the main character
Revisado: 07-23-24
At first, I felt like this book was more like a documentary rather than a novel. But I stuck with it and was enchanted by the main character, a refined 85 year old Argentinian-American. It had twists and turns that were unexpected. It wasn’t suspenseful but still a good read. Or listen, I should say.

When a series of murders announces his return, Frieda must emerge from the shadows to confront her nemesis. And it's a showdown she might not survive.

Historia
Frieda Klein is a solitary, incisive psychotherapist who spends her sleepless nights walking along the ancient rivers that have been forced underground in modern London. She believes that the world is a messy, uncontrollable place. The abduction of five-year-old Matthew Farraday provokes a national outcry and a desperate police hunt. And when his face is splashed over the newspapers, Frieda cannot ignore the coincidence: one of her patients has been having dreams in which he has a hunger for just such a child.

Revisado: 02-15-24
Fast paced, interesting book. Actually I couldn’t put it down. Or in this case, stop listening. I like the narrator’s Australian voice, but her American accents are so bad, it is difficult as an American to listen to them. Other narrators are needed for the foreign accents. Other than that, it was great
