Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Lazy in The Details
Revisado: 03-27-23
Nothing makes me lose interest quicker in a potentially great story than an author who is lazy in their research of historical details. For example, one of the main characters is a “Vietnam War Vet”. But, the first clue in laziness comes from when the story establishes the character’s age as 27 in 1983. It would be virtually impossible for a person who was 27 in 1983 to have seen combat in Vietnam. The train completely jumps the tracks when the story later mentions the horror witnessed by the main character in Vietnam combat during 1974. The issue is the final troops were withdrawn from Vietnam in March of 1973. Authors and their stories lose credibility when they don’t take the time to do the most basic of research. There’s zero excuse to get basic historical facts correct.

Historia
December 1944: Deep in the Ardennes forest, a platoon of 18 men under the command of 20-year-old lieutenant Lyle Bouck huddle in their foxholes. Under attack and vastly outnumbered, they repulse three German assaults in a fierce day-long battle, killing more than 500 Germans. Only when Bouck's men run out of ammunition do they surrender. As POWs, Bouck's platoon experience an ordeal far worse than combat: trigger-happy German guards, Allied bombing raids, and a daily ration of thin soup. Somehow, the men of Bouck's platoon all miraculously survive.

Historia
America has one force with the single mission of direct action to capture or kill the enemy. That force is the 75th Ranger Regiment. Staff Sergeant Paul Martinez was a Ranger Sniper with the 75th Rangers during the desperate fighting in Afghanistan in 2011 when the United States made the decision to try to withdraw from Afghanistan. It was never going to be easy. There were still a large number of senior Taliban and al Qaeda leaders and other terrorists in secure locations throughout that country.

OKAY
Revisado: 04-17-19
Don’t quite understand why this book needed to be written. Not exactly a gripping warrior’s tale. Good enough for a listen, but ultimately forgettable in the end. Not taking away from the extraordinary sense of courage and service undertaken by the author. God bless him. But, the narrative wasn’t quite ready for prime time.

So much more with the audio version...
Revisado: 11-28-18
This book was written for music fans with the Beastie Boys in mind. It’s less of a “book” in bookish terms, and more of a Beastie Boys produced, sampled, overdubbed, fuzz bass’ed, mix-mastered groove down memory lane. The audio version is chocked so full of guest narrators that it makes the two scoops in Raisin Bran seem like you’ve been cheated. Awesome listen.

Having outlived his bandmates, Marky is the only person who can share the secrets and stories of the Ramones' improbable rise from obtuse beginnings to induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But it wasn't all good times and hit songs, and Marky doesn't shy away from discussing his own struggles.

Dedicated Punk Fans Must Read
Revisado: 03-26-15
Would you listen to Punk Rock Blitzkrieg again? Why?
Yes. Great background into the history of Punk legends Ramones. Like any history story told well, there's typically more to glean on a second pass.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Punk Rock Blitzkrieg?
Realizing "End Of The Century" was Spectorized. I thought I knew my album history, but some how managed to miss the fact Phil Spector produced End of The Century. I stopped the book as soon as I learned this fact, and immediately listened to the album again, and heard the tracks with new ears. As a matter of fact, learning the stories behind many of the Ramones songs and Markey's previous bands was a huge distraction --- I found myself constantly switching from the book to my long punk playlist to listen to all the songs mentioned with a brand new appreciation. It was a very cool experience for a lifelong fan.
Have you listened to any of Corey M. Snow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was my first listen with Mr. Snow. He did a great job of projecting Marky's tone and speech pattern. It's clear Mr. Snow "got in character" to deliver the narration, and it worked great.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"Sedated" What else would you call it?
Any additional comments?
Was a clear reminder of to not pass up the opportunity catch your favorite bands when they are around -- there's no guarantee they'll pass by again.

Historia
When Navy SEAL Adam Brown woke up on March 17, 2010, he didn’t know he would die that night in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan - but he was ready: In a letter to his children, not meant to be seen unless the worst happened, he wrote, "I’m not afraid of anything that might happen to me on this earth, because I know no matter what, nothing can take my spirit from me."

Where does Fearless rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Fearless has risen to the top of my military history list given the nature of Adam Brown's personal character in that he fought wars his entire life: Personal Addiction, Spiritual and Direct Combat. I don't recall ever reading another book that a human has risen from such personal depths to overcoming the absolute toughest challenges the world has to offer. Fearless has something to offer many genres in one great package: Military History, Addiction, Christianity, Family, etc.
Any additional comments?
The ultimate outcome of Adam Brown is well known and established before you crack the first page. I have to admit the book is so well written and told, that I almost had to stop listening because I wanted Adam to still be alive. It was hard for me to stomach hearing about the loss of this Man, Hero, Christian and Father. First time that's ever happened to me with any book...And I'm a combat veteran with the Marines.

Historia
Combat veteran and author Hans Halberstadt takes listeners deeper inside the elusive world of snipers than ever before, from recruitment and training to the brutality of the killing fields. Based on hundreds of hours of exclusive interviews, Halberstadt gets inside the sniper mind and shows how snipers think and interact with each other, how missions are planned and executed, how the weapons work, and even what happens when a bullet finally strikes its target.
There are only a few hundred snipers from all the services put together in combat at any one time, making this true inside story a rare and important event.

One Shot, One Listen
Revisado: 07-20-08
Trigger Men is a great balance of history and heroism. It's clear there was an extraordinary amount of time spent to uncover and tell the story of our military snipers, and their important everyday missions that most of us could never dare to imagine. The only small technical detail I had a challenge with is the fact the orator consistently spelled out S-T-A rather than pronouncing it "Stay" as is the actual practice. However, the story was well crafted and structured in a manner that leant itself to the great blend of history and practical application of the essential skills of the American Sniper.
