Underwhelming and mouth noises
Revisado: 07-09-23
I love the movie and I thought I would listen to the book to get even more out of this story. But the book is a far cry from the charming movie. This book is crass and dark, with a lot of mean and awful moments. The characters are awful people. There is no love, there is no charm, there is no magic. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. I don’t really understand what it was about in the end? Why would I care about these mean, selfish and boring people?
The narrator should drink some water beforehand so I don’t have to listen to her swallow and wet her mouth. Ugh!! I get shivers thinking about it.

NOT AGATHA! What the heck just happened?
Revisado: 07-05-23
On the surface the book seems to be like the rest but don’t be deceived…this is not the Agatha books we know.
As frustrating as the series is there is a soul to them that is lacking here.
Spoilers ahead
If you love Charles and Agatha as much as I do then you will be horribly disappointed. I don’t know how the author could make a story about Charles’s wide being murdered and having so little of him in the book!!! This should have been an adventure that brought the two finally together. The only reason I could see for them being too stubborn to commit was the money issues Charles had. Now that’s over he should be free and clear to be with her. Yet where is Charles? Off having sex with a random that Agatha sprays in the face with champagne??? Excuse me?
And then the author sanctifies James as if he has suddenly changed his ways overnight and is this dotting lover?
Why the hell didn’t James help out the investigation? I thought he and Charles were close? Wouldn’t he want to help clear his friend’s name?
And why oh why is Agatha not spending more time with Mrs Bloxby? Where is her mean Vicar of a husband who gives Agatha a hard time?
Agatha has never gotten along with Wilks but she’s never outright been so disrespectful without fear of consequences.
I hated the James and Agath relationship since the beginning. And it took dozens of books for her to FINALLY BE OVER JAMES AND FALLING FOR CHARLES. How dare this new author rewrite the entire romantic plot line and alter Charles and James so utterly so they are unrecognizable.
Charles wasn’t even part of his own investigation!! He was just gone. Agatha was on her own and it was a hot mess.
To the new author. DO A BETTER JOB and be true to the characters. This isn’t your fan fiction. These are loved characters that have souls and relationships that are complex.
You have put me off the series. If Agatha ends up with the chauvinist domineering unlovable cold fish James I will never forgive you.

It's been one year since a virus triggered junk DNA and people all over the world started changing, becoming something else, craving blood. It's been 10 months since the word vampire stopped being something from old monster stories and Hollywood movies. It's been six months since our world and theirs erupted into war, two since an uneasy peace was signed, and one hour since that peace was shattered. The war is here again - the vampire war.

Very graphic….laughing horse ruined the book
Revisado: 04-06-23
I love vampire stories and often I feel they have vampires that are too nice don’t drink enough blood so I was very interested in this book. This is the total opposite. I was enjoying it but found that the violence became too brutal. A lot of violence against children. It became grotesque and over the top. And the rape scene was too much. It was unnecessary and ruined the book for me.

Historia
A cold Northerly breeze blew bitterly, chilling them to the core, as Meghan and her partner Jason, crept silently. Overhead, dark clouds drifted and blotted out the full moon, casting the cemetery into a murky blackness, yet further on, they could see a storm brewing. Lightning danced in the sky as they hurried along with the desire to read the tombstones that brought them out in the middle of the night. Some of the graves were hundreds of years old.

Gretel - yes, that Gretel - is now 35, very large, still living with her brother, Hans, and working as a private investigator. The small, sleepy town of Gesternstadt is shaken to its pretty foundations when the workshop of the local cart maker is burned to the ground, and a body is discovered in the ashes. It is Gretel who notices that the cadaver is missing a finger. At first she does not see this as significant, as her mind is fully focused on a new case.

If she didn't let them know she could see them, then they left her alone. Until she stepped out of her car the first day of school and saw an incredibly sexy guy lounging on a picnic table, watching her with an amused smirk on his face. Problem is, she knows he's dead.

Grating narrator and whiny protagonist
Revisado: 03-23-22
I couldn’t even finish this book. The narrator is AWFUL. Each voice is annoying, and she makes the main character so intolerable.
I’m very tired of stories where ancient powerful beings fall hopelessly in love with teenagers that have ZERO personality.
What makes Pagan special?! Nothing. She’s whiny, boring, and worst of all so selfish! She uses Lathe and cheats on him with Dank (terrible horrible name). She doesn’t help anyone. Dank falls for her because….why? Oh yeah, he’s drawn to her soul. Cool. And oh…he stalks her.
Again another seriously awful lesson to teach teens. It’s ok to let a guy stalk you as long as he’s super hot.
Nothing about this book appeals.
Unlikeable female protagonist.
Creepy hot stalker love interest.
Not for me.

Hoping for less whining and more growth
Revisado: 09-21-21
I started the series loving the concept and absolutely loving Amanda Ronconi’s narration. I understood the main character was put in a position she didn’t like and enjoyed the early shenanigans and her difficulty adjusting.
But now it’s time to accept and get on with it. Allison’s not a nice person. She treats the ghosts badly, is too sarcastic, lies and doesn’t move forward with what her situation is. It doesn’t make sense that at this point she is still denying the fact she’s the “ghost lady” while she’s advertising a haunted guest house with the Senior Plus tours. It’s like she’s living a double life for NO reason. Why wouldn’t she just accept and thrive off of it.
Her relationship suffers, she’s constantly complaining and personally I think she’s only nice to her daughter. And that’s not a healthy relationship where she treats her daughter like an adult that’s more mature that she is.
It bothers me how badly Allison views and treats Maxi especially.
I’ll try the next one but it’s getting really tiresome to listen to Allison’s constant bad attitude.

Left confused
Revisado: 04-14-21
My review will have spoilers so please keep that in mind.
Firstly I think the narrator has to STOP with the baby voice for Jayne. Ugh. It’s like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Secondly I just don’t get what happened with the love triangle?!?!? It was like the author was just sick of it and wanted it over so she ended it abruptly and without any emotion at all.
It’s unrealistic in my opinion for a person to date two guys at the same time for over a year and not develop strong feelings. Especially not when one of them was an ex that she loved. Things between jayne and Cooper ended over an email?! Seriously?? I’m sorry but Cooper loved her and he never got over her. How could he just email her and not call her?
Grayson dumping her because she’s dating a necromancer but not because she added a 3rd guy to her harem seemed even dumber. Don’t either of these guys have any pride? I think it’s pretty insulting for Jayne to pick up another guy when she’s stringing two really amazing decent guys who’ve helped her and been there for her for so long.
I’m shocked that Cooper and grayson didn’t dump her sooner. And have some decency Jayne!!! How could you date 3 guys at once? How wishy washy of a character are you? Ugh.
I’m going to try one more book and I hope it has more depth to it. This book was a slap in the face to us readers that were invested in the triangle.
We’ll see if she sticks with this new guy or just picks up more hot guys along the way. It just seems that she likes the attention of any hot guy and doesn’t have much in the way of integrity...

Renowned as much for her wit and satirical social commentary as for her stories of love and romance, Jane Austen remains unfailingly relevant and one of Britain’s best loved authors. In this Audible Original collection, an all-star list of narrators (Billie Piper, Claire Foy, Emma Thompson, Florence Pugh and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) capture Austen’s pin-sharp humour and tone in these dramatisations of her six beloved novels accompanied by a full cast.

Most wonderful!
Revisado: 03-22-21
I loved this Collection. It was very well performed.
I did not however like the performance by the voice actor who played Elizabeth Bennett. I thought her voice too gruff and unpleasant.
The narrator for Persuasion shouldn’t ever record another book again. I found he full and lifeless. It was like she was reading an instruction manual. There was no inflection or character at all. It was somber and boring. Reminded me of the Nasal Drip commercials.
Other than those two points the rest of the casts should be commended for their talents and bringing to life such wonderful stories.
I love Jane Austen’s worlds and this is such an incredible collection! I highly recommend.

And it’s not long before they stumble across a murder right in the heart of Austria’s historic capital. The critic’s jealous mistress wanting revenge? Or even the American horse trainer who seems inexplicably nervous around the police?

Good but left wanting
Revisado: 02-24-21
I love the Oxford Tea Room series and eagerly listen to each one. They aren’t my usual cup of tea as I gravitate towards steamier novels or ones with a supernatural twist.
So up until now I’ve been patient with the relationship between Jemma and Devlin (though the last book had me shaking my head a few times) but this book really was horribly lack lustre in the romance department.
Spoiler alert
I just don’t understand their relationship at all at this point. It’s like they are just acquaintances. They have as much steam as frozen perogies. Devlin bails on their vacation and she gets mad (rightfully so) but then the novel just skips around and randomly inserts their relationship as if he’s nothing more than a contact she needs. There’s ZERO chemistry now. He doesn’t do anything to redeem himself and at the end she returns home and he’s not there to greet her or pick her up from the airport....like what?! Why are they even together?
There’s nothing likeable to me about their relationship. Neither of them try hard to see each other, they never have fun, they argue more than they kiss and Jemma is a prude.
Again, I know that normally the stories I like are much more romantic but even in real life I don’t know any of my friends that act like this. I’m married and I can tell you that in comparison to Jemma and Devlin my relationship would be a scone with clotted cream and jam and theirs would be a soggy saltine. =_=
I hope there’s more character development. Because as far as I can tell they have a very unhealthy relationship. And each book seems like they are getting closer and closer to ending things. Or at least I hope they do because they are horribly mismatched.
I think though that I’m really just listening to the series for the Old Biddies. They are by far the most interesting and amazing part of this book. And of course muesli, things would be horribly dull without the cat and the old ladies.
I’ll try one more book but I don’t see myself listening to more if things don’t improve with the main characters.
