No-Choice Theory: A Simplified Scientific Analysis of the Issues of Free Will and Determinism

Historia
Skillfully translating complex scientific concepts into accessible, everyday terms, Safavy invites listeners to consider the arguments for and against universal determinism. How does the presence or absence of free will affect our lives and our decisions? If there is no free will, how would that change our approach to crucial moral and sociological issues? Do we have free will? If not, what is occurring when we make a decision and act on it? The answers lie in No-Choice Theory.

Hreat food for thought
Revisado: 01-19-23
This is a very reductionist approach to the thought process of determinism and free will. The author tries to bring everything together at the end, but I'm not sure that that's even possible.

Historia
Fitness may be the most failed human endeavor, and exercise science has missed some obvious principles that, when enacted, will turn you into the superhuman that you've always wanted to be. Authors Dr. John Jaquish and Henry Alkire explore the science that supports this argument and present a superior strength-training approach.

Mostly sales literature
Revisado: 01-02-21
Most of this book is focused on selling a relatively expensive rubber band exercise system and supplements. While many of the methodologies promoted have some empirical evidence, most of it is not particularly new in the science of bodybuilding, body recompostioning, and diet. The primary accomplishment here is to rebrand it, though there is some value to having the information all "under one roof".
The narration is generally good with the exception of horrific mispronunciations of some of the terminology. in a couple of spots, I had to back up and listen again in an attempt.to identify the word that was verbally slaughtered. Eventually, the mispronunciations began to become a form of entertainment.
Overall, I can neither recommend the book nor discourage it's reading. There are important concepts here that are of value. Just don't join a cult.

Green's Most Interesting Work
Revisado: 06-28-20
I found this book eminently engaging, prodigiously well-written, and deeply thought-provoking. Brian clearly puts a great deal of effort into clarity of thought.
This book is the most philosophical one he's written, in my opinion. He unapologetically leaves the rigid walls of pure science in some parts to offer speculations that shake the mind from its monotonous slumber. He humbly brings the reader back within the box of reality while offering counter views to counter views and lamenting the lack of evidence.
I enjoy most the enthusiasm for discovery that Greene brings to his work. It lifts me from despair of the mundane to a world more wonderful, more majestic than those described in the most imaginative fiction.
If you like Brian Greene, you'll love this book.

The Order of Time

Historia
In lyric, accessible prose, Carlo Rovelli invites us to consider questions about the nature of time that continue to puzzle physicists and philosophers alike. For most listeners, this is unfamiliar terrain. We all experience time, but the more scientists learn about it, the more mysterious it appears. We think of it as uniform and universal, moving steadily from past to future, measured by clocks. Rovelli tears down these assumptions one by one, revealing a strange universe where, at the most fundamental level, time disappears.

Excellent!!
Revisado: 06-10-18
This was very well organized, clear, and well-laid-out. Rovelli navigated the esoteric waters of perceptions, quantum gravity, and physics to present a masterful exposition of a subject humans have struggled with for eons. Cumberbatch's presentation was impeccable.

Revisado: 09-30-16
This book is a good overview of the technology but lacks much depth. Some specific examples of dictation, setting up for dictation, and approach to keeping it flowing would be great additions to the next edition. This is a good read for someone new to dictation or someone trying to decide wjether or not to make the jump.
