Tolstoy’s perception of the world is as vital today as it was when he wrote this. His characters, the questions he wrestles with— he could’ve written this yesterday. And Maggie Gyllenhaal’s reading was so moving. Like her soul was connected to the story. It may not be the “preferred” translation, but it doesn’t matter. Amazing that this was free. A gift!

James Ochoa's book on adult ADHD was unlike other ADHD books I've read. It was insightful, clearly written by someone who has experienced ADHD in a very personal way. But also insightful because, as a therapist, he has seen a great variety of ADHD cases. He sees what most of us share in common but embraces put individuality as well. It is an encouraging, loving, exciting, challenging, realistic book, and I can't recommend it strongly enough to people who struggle with ADHD or love someone who does!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Listening to this book is not a waste of time, but turn it on without high expectations.

I thought for the most part that Cartawick really captured the personalities of Holmes and Watson, but in each of the three stories there was a lack of substance and challenge. They had a faint guise of mystery but really they were just stories in which you find out something at the end you didn't know.

What could Pennie Mae Cartawick have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

If the author were to take more time over the story and the nuisances such as Holmes observing the impossible only to explain it all logically the stories would be richer and more believably connected to the originals.

Which character – as performed by Simon Prebble – was your favorite?

Simon Prebble is a great reader. His Holmes was excellent, but Holmes didn't have enough dialogue.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Probably not.

Any additional comments?

Sir A. C. Doyle was a genius; Cartawick isn't claiming to be. I enjoyed her dialogue and the shadow of my favorite characters I found there.
