Excellent. Treatment of compelling human issues
Revisado: 10-09-16
Krueger' best book and probably the best book I have read in years. Extremely well written treatment of a family crisis as seen by a 13 year old. Presentation of life in a small Minnesota town accurate and compelling.

Historia
Since the violent deaths of his wife, father, and best friend all occurred in previous Novembers, Cork O'Connor has always considered it to be the cruelest of months. Yet his daughter has chosen this dismal time of year in which to marry, and Cork is understandably uneasy. His concern comes to a head when a man camping in Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness goes missing. As the official search ends with no recovery in sight, Cork is asked by the man's family to stay on the case.

Indian culture and mystery
Revisado: 09-26-16
Story relied heavily on certain cultural and Indian religious beliefs. This can be interesting and/or tedious. The plot is a bit contrived but overall entertaining. One wonders where Krueger will go next with story line. Let's hope he doesn't do one of the principal characters In as was done with Joe. Improbable and disappointing.

Slow going
Revisado: 09-18-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Ot really.
Has The Battle for Hell's Island turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Maybe.
Any additional comments?
Tedious anspd repititious. Listing names of crew on vaarious missions makes the book read like a squadron report and wastes space. This book will only work for the dyed-in-the-wool military history fan and even then might not work.

This book is thoroughly researched, well written and very well performed! Jackson's generalship is superior. He was able to turn a very likely defeat into victory! Anyone interested in US history should read this book.

Historia
With more than half a million copies sold, Robert Mason's Chickenhawk is one of the best-selling books ever written about the Vietnam War. Fascinated with flying from a young age, Mason earned his private pilot's license even before graduating high school. He enlisted in the army in 1964 and endured an extremely challenging "weeding out" process in an effort to fly helicopters. Sent to Vietnam, he survived more than 1,000 air combat missions despite the violence and brutality exploding all around him.

Depressing war story
Revisado: 08-06-16
It is easy to see why Viet Nam was such a disaster after reading this book. Poor leadership and poor strategy seems to be at every turn. The helicopter technical descriptions are accurate which may make this book worth reading, particularly for military pilots who did not fly this mission but the description of weak and poorly motivated leaders is depressing.

Historia
Sunday, December 7, 1941, dawned clear and bright over the Pacific....
But for the Dauntless dive-bomber crews of the USS Enterprise returning to their home base on Oahu, it was a morning from hell. Flying directly into the Japanese ambush at Pearl Harbor, they lost a third of their squadron and witnessed the heart of America's Navy broken and smoldering on the oil-slicked waters below.

Terminology?
Revisado: 06-20-16
Very detailed bordering at times on tedious. Recitation of lists of names tiring. Confusion in use of USN nomenclature. "Naval Aviator" instead of combat air crewman for enlisted radio operators/gunners for example. Would have benefited by an edit by a Navy pilot and/or a combat air crewman. But a good read for a detailed report on the valiant aircrew who gave their all at Midway.

Half a book
Revisado: 04-06-04
This is not a bad Clancy yarn as far as it goes, but it stops in the middle of the story. It leaves completely undeveloped significant parts of the story and its characters. The main "evil dooers" are vaguely described but the book ends without any type of resolution of their situation. The book is a disapointment. This looks like one that was written for money. I suppose a sequel is coming, but I am not sure that I will spend time and money on it.
