knights battle tale, with some wizarding
Revisado: 02-17-25
an enjoyable romp. not terribly complicated, maybe too many character names, but need plenty of people so you can kill them off . . .
I enjoyed and would recommend.

why did I listen to all 10 of them?
Revisado: 01-12-25
Fine. I rated it 5. I hardly rate anything 5. Why? Because the only way you will get here is if you already like RPGlit and you like the D&D genre. if you like that, you will like this. to think that I actually am entertained by skills selection! To think that I used to be nervous around Villie, now he's my bud.
Hey, does Baldree actually need to read ellipsis?

Simply an Adveture
Revisado: 05-19-23
It follows the formula. Enough battle and just enough unique plot elements to keep you going. And, by time I was 15 hours in, I did care about the characters. I even shed a tear or two.

Complex story: No.

Third Book, Things move forward, but a bit slowly
Revisado: 02-05-23
I do like the books. all of the storylines do have me curious, intrigued, and wanting to know what happens to the characters.
But, it just feels a bit plodding. Nothing really new is introduced in the third book. the storylines all plod a bit. (I also dislike how the same characters are described when we see them in the same way, like we've never seen them before. It feels like word-count packing)
but, I will read #4. I am looking forward to it.

A new order was established in an attempt to return Caledun to its former glory. It failed, but in its place rose the beginnings of the Code. During this same period, the mystical caretakers of the Great Wood retreated from the world of Kal Maran, their disappearance an ominous harbinger of the suffering that was to follow. The Great Wood now grows out of control. Cities, towns, and villages have fallen before the relentless march of the forest.

Books to Work By Review
Revisado: 01-08-23
Long stretches where there is character-building, plot-building, and not much happens.
It eventually satisfies my need for battle. There were many times where I really was emotionally engaged in the unfolding story, just not enough. So, good pulp and not a lot of complexity to the story.
I love all the classic cliches, but I suppose you actually can overuse them.
I did stick with this long book thus was having some fun, but I don't think I will return for the next book.
liked the voice talent.

A great "working book"
Revisado: 12-03-22
so, I listen to books while driving, or working around the house (auto maintenance, cutting wood, etc.) and this book is perfect for that. very entertaining. one enjoyable action sequence after another.
now, versus previous Ryan books, I had no trouble putting this down and taking a break. But, good adventure with characters I enjoyed.
