Wonderful telling of WWII code breakers and their work and impact on the war - absolutely great listen!
Revisado: 10-08-24
This story, inspired by real events and people, gave a look at wartime and the impact of those not on the front line. From the perspective of 3 female code breakers, the reader goes on a journey of how their work was demanding, secretive, and transformative in their own life, England, and the war. This is a great read and wonderful chapter at the end where the author walks you through the influences of the characters in the story.

Historia
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

This book should have been titled: Shame
Revisado: 08-19-24
The amount of times the word shame is used in this book is alarming and triggering. The author sounded arrogant at times and it felt like I was getting gaslit into trying to feel shame. This book did not provide the insight and inspiration I was hoping for. If you still want to try to ingest the content of this material, I suggest you read a physical copy of the book and not listen to it as I do feel the audio played a part in my negative reaction to this piece of work.

Historia
Romania, 1989. Communist regimes are crumbling across Europe. Seventeen-year-old Cristian Florescu dreams of becoming a writer, but Romanians aren’t free to dream; they are bound by rules and force. Amidst the tyrannical dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaușescu in a country governed by isolation and fear, Cristian is blackmailed by the secret police to become an informer. He’s left with only two choices: betray everyone and everything he loves—or use his position to creatively undermine the most notoriously evil dictator in Eastern Europe.

Powerful young adult novel about inner power and struggle in oneself and in 1989 Romania
Revisado: 11-12-23
Wonderful story and fantastic listen. Learning about communist Romania through the eyes of Christian was educational and a terrific character arc to follow. The writer takes you through the emotions and mental struggles of Christian while depicting the details so well, the reader wants to keep learning about the journey. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommended it to my 19 year old son to read. A big thank you to my 14 year olds English teacher for teaching this book in her class.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

I struggled to listen to this book. It took months to get as far as I did. I had about 5hrs left and decided to abandon the book. I was not invested in the characters and the narration was not my favorite. Make sure to listen to the sample before purchasing to see if this book is for you.

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

I really wanted to like this book. The inconsistencies in some of the plots and themes was glaring. The plot was promising as were the characters. This book needed a different editor.

Fictional what to expect when your expecting
Revisado: 02-12-21
The narrator was very good. The story and plot were predictable. If you are pregnant and want to hear about impending motherhood then you might enjoy this book. Understand that there are other thoughts on childbirth, babies first year and motherhood than what is brought to light in this book. This just wasn’t a world I wanted to be taken to during my reading time.
