If you are fighting depression skip this one. Lots of triggers. Rape, physical abuse, being buried alive murder, death of a child.

Dianne Duvall has given us another fun lighthearted space opera with her usual range of characters. Thank you very much Diane for a fun read.

Picture this: you have an eighty thousand dollar world grand champion horse that you have raised from a foal. He has just been stampeded across the dessert and roughly handled by bad men. Knowing that horses have career ending injuries, broken bones and lacerations from the smallest opportunity. Do you, the dedicated horse girl go take care of your horse because you have a relationship with that horse and your horse looks to you for his comfort and safety or do you abandon your horse with unknown strangers, to run off and have sex with the hot cowboy. Ask any dedicated horse girl the answer to this question. I dare you! I don’t know a single champion who would choose the cowboy. You blew it delta.

Liked the first two books but this one got ridiculous with a silly attempt at woke pronoun use for a guy who has been dead for over 200 years. It was very confusing. (The guy is dead Scott. Don’t think you’re gonna hurt his feelings.)But you did a great job of destroying the flow of the book. This book s annoying.

This would be a good story except that these guys thrash the women after they are wounded and hurting knowing that they have to be on horseback all the next day and with complete disregard for the terrible experiences they have been through. Anything further I say about it would just be spoilers. If you like books where the men, not their husbands, win every argument by beating the women into submission this is your book.

Further more this author knows very little about horses and cattle.

I really love all of M. K. Eidem’s books except this one. I love poor Nikhil and I felt so bad for him that he got stuck with such a lying b*tch! Seriously this character was so ungrateful for everything that was done for and constantly demanding more, more, more. She was constantly holding him to standards she refused to hold herself to and made everything all about her. Poor Nikhil. I would have treated him so much better. If you are new to this series don’t start with this book. Start with Wray. The first two female leads are kind caring people who deserve their happiness. This one deserves to have her selfish butt plopped back on earth where she can stay all alone and have her whole life be all about her.

Way to much inner dialogue. Narrator sounds like Savik from Star Trek 3. Don’t tell me what is happening. Show me.

I liked this story. It was a great fantasy with just enough details to draw you into their world without a big information dump at the beginning. It had the potential to be a great story but the author was a little too focused on the sex and not quite enough on the story. Yes I know it’s erotica but S.E. Smith pulls it off why not Grace Goodwin? I think she has the potential to be just as good.

The way they did the narration caused it to be disruptive to the flow of the book. It seems that they split up the chapters or maybe the character point of views. There was a male and a female narrator. But the way they split the text up had the female doing the male voice and didn’t work for me. It was disconcerting and kept me from really getting into the story. I liked the female narrator. The male came across as overly harsh (the voice not the story) at first but then got better. It would be optimal if they split the characters along gender lines instead of story lines.

Overall it was a soothing bit of mind candy. I enjoyed it.

I have really enjoyed all of Susan Smiths Dragon Lords stories. The world building is complex and rich. The characters deep and evolved. But the female lead in this story, was just not easy to identify with. She goes through a terrible trauma. Captured and tortured she spends most of the book wrapped up in herself, which is probably reasonable but we aren’t really given enough of what she was feeling to build an emotional connection with her and she comes off feeling selfish instead of vulnerable. I liked the hero but he was no Alpha. I think she desperately needed an alpha. We are nine books into this series, you’d think by now one of the girls would have written a “Welcome to Valdier: Everything you need to know to hook up with your Dragon Lord” manual; because really the lack of communication plot focus is getting tired. Sorry Susan, this is the first one of your books that left me cold. But Susan Smith is so good I will still not hesitate to buy the next book she releases. One other thing, the book should probably come with a disclaimer as an ER Nurse I’m begging you please don’t try the poison plant trick at the end of the book just come on into the ER. Let us figure it out. That’s why we’re there.
